Iceland's over 60's Discount

Other

Was in Iceland's today 🛍️ and saw this sign saying Over 60's can get 10% off whole shop every Tuesday but in store only. I think this is old news but I had no clue. Even though I'm not in the intended dermographic I think it's a great incentive, indeed very kind and thoughtful of Iceland 💗

So my question is, does anyone here make use of this offer 😍 .. My mum doesn't shop here as it's too far but it would have been great for her nonetheless

From what I've read Iceland supermarkets are very high energy users because of all the freezers so they have been hit harder than any other supermarkets perhaps with the exception of farmfoods when it comes to energy costs and you can see that in their prices they have suddenly become far less competitive for many products even more so than other supermarkets. I was in my local Iceland today and they had a tiny iceberg lettuce for £1. In contrast much cheaper and larger in the nearby M&S foodhall. I only really go into Iceland as I'm passing it and buy their reductions if there are any decent ones. It seems to be one of the most expensive supermarkets now. Stupidly while they have their own range of frozen goods they tend to only stock mainly branded tinned and packet goods which makes them very uncompetitive. Seems madness not to have their own range of such products which they could sell for less and have a higher margin as has been stated for other supermarkets.

Heinz baked beans? You might get a better deal from store brand ones.

Sainsbury's (Hubbard's) baked beans are very good.

Why just make the offer open to over 60s? What about struggling youngster too and very low income families? Not all older people are poor.

I agree with u, it would b great for low income families especially in today’s climate. They could probably get more benefit from it than over 60s

chele44 You would be surprised how little benefits the OAP's get to survive on

I think , in general , younger folk can get an extra part time job or perhaps more overtime ( I and my friends often did both when younger to buy stuff we wanted ) . Those over 60 , certainly those past retirement age are unlikely to have that option even if their failing health permits .

If passing by on a Tuesday i'll have a peak but often counter productive cos wind up buying things that I don't particularly need.

There are a lot of 60 year olds in full time employment. The retirement age is now 66 so maybe Iceland should make their discount to retirees only.

I encouraged my mum to start using this offer from when it started. I usually give her a list of things to buy for me too like 3 for £10 shrimp, frozen sweetcorn and frozen spinach leaves 😃
