Ireland: Far Too Early to Say What Type of Christmas We Will Be Having

In the News

This is insane. Yes, it's in Ireland although don't be surprised if Boris decides to pull the same or a similar restriction.

Next thing you know, they'll demand that people receive permission to leave their houses. George Orwell warned us of this.

Lockdowns, curfews, deciding our Christmas.. sigh. And people just roll with it as if it's no big deal.

its pandemic , people are dying , people who could live still if not COVID. There will be Christmas next year but unfortunately not for everyone !!! Some lost their families , if it affected you or your family you wouldn’t be saying that!!! How awful to worry about Christmas whilst other loosing their loved ones !!! Tired of people moaning

People are dying of other things besides covid, and because of lockdowns and over the top restrictions (we do need certain restrictions in place, but some are a little silly), the waiting list for vital cancer treatments and operations is ever increasing. That is one of the reasons as to why I believe that lockdowns are doing more harm than good.

I am sorry for all those who have died due to covid, but all other lives matter also.

RegularComper90 of course people dying of other illnesses but also some who have underlying conditions because of COVID die before they should !!! older People would live another 10 years maybe but already died as of COVID ! Tired of all that **** . All the hospitals are full and no more space , so better with restrictions than ambulances queuing with COVID sick people ! seriously don’t understand why people are worrying about Christmas, you should be happy you can have Christmas as many cannot . If not restrictions Then there would be even worse , as COVID won’t disappear just like that , so won’t help people on the waiting lists , it will slow even more .

i understand the seriousness of what the world is currently under going, at the same time i also think of those families with young children and members of family in a separate household. (i.e old members they used to visit etc)

its horrible to think kids have been stripped of the year and may not get to fully enjoy christmas, but as adults we adapt and make the best of a poor situation.

my kids are all very young and realise how this year may effect the ending to our usual routine. However as their mum i will make it as special and magical as i can, and i think every parent can. unfortunately i cant speak on the matter of old family members not seeing people etc. that's very sad to think of, but we kind of aren't left with many options to correct that.

I hoped we'd all see an end of this by novemeber ( as in lockdown but still being safe) but there isnt anything else we can do apart from what we are doing sadly.

A lot of your topics are rebellious and controversial so I rarely reply. You sound very young but from a lot of hints it would appear you are around 30.

Most human beings are incapable of acting for the common good and therefore laws are required to protect ourselves. Would you like to live in a society where murder, thieving, rape, fraud and abuse went on unchecked?

Well now imagine if the government did not take the steps required to combat covid. When the death statistics continued to increase they would have to answer for their negligence. So, damned if they do, damned if they don't.

If all human beings acted for the good of others we would not need laws and as bad deeds begin to outnumber good, more and more stringent laws are needed to combat evil doing.

I don’t really understand the point you are making PhilipMarc given the article you have cited? The Taoiseach has said Christmas May be different this year. Any rational thinking person would agree with that. At present, there aren’t any Orwellian dictats. This virus is unprecedented and therefore the response is unchartered waters. Governments all over the world are responding in the best way they can.
