Do You Still Have a Landline?

Ask a Question

I use my landline if I want to chat but a number of my friends and family only have mobiles. Do you think this is a generation thing?

I have a landline just because came with my broadband packet but I wouldn't even noticed if the phone is plugged in or not if I am honest.

Not at all, I am an old un and I haven't had a landline for about 10 years.

I very rarely use my allocated minutes as I am not on the phone constantly, despite hour long conversations with my sister and sons!.

We don’t have one. If I need to call someone I just use my mobile minutes, most contracts come with unlimited minutes, or for family I tend to video call.

My mum has a landline as it works out cheaper for her as a tv and internet package if she has a landline 🤷🏻‍♀️

We have one but have really reduced our package and never use it for outgoing calls as they're now costed but it's a great back up and `i used it to call an ambulance recently when my mobile was flat so it was literally a lifesaver!

Pay for it but there is no longer a phone plugged into it. The only person that used to call me on it was my Gran but she past away earlier in the year 😢

We still have one but we will be getting rid of it at some point, as we rarely use it and it’s not worth it

the thing is if the mobile masts go down etc etc then you're left without a phone... we have an old fashioned wired phone that has been used lots when there's been a power cut.

We don't have mobile phone contracts, just PAYG so we have a landline (connected to our broadband). TBH I didn't realise you could have broadband without one?!

I much rather use a landline than a mobile.

I have unlimited minutes, but the reception is a bit sketchy.

the trouble with landline phones is the astronomical costs to call folk who only have a mobile number-that used to drive me barmy when I couldn't afford the cost of a mobile plan but now they're more affordable and have those free minutes.

BORDERJOE My plan includes calls to mobiles, so it's not too bad. I think that I'm paying around £8pm

We always used our landline ... until I found that I could actually afford to have a mobile plan. The lower costs of mobile plans with unlimited calls and texts made the difference. Now we keep our landline as a back up in mast problems etc.

jdible but have you never lost mobile signal? We have in both the two areas we've lived in since getting our mobile packages... and a few months ago I needed 999 urgently and my mobile was flat ... which is very rare.... the land line was a lifesaver then.

Like you, BORDERJOE, we often have power cuts and so it is handy to have a landline. Ours is part of our broadband package. I don’t even know the number and rarely use it but I like the fact that we have it.

Our elderly next door neighbour always phones on it

Can you just buy broadband without a landline and is it much of a saving? My broadband package is about £17 a month and I get free evenings and weekend calls. I only have pay as you go on my mobile and sometimes don't even have any credit on it. I might make free calls on my landline for 5 hours a week. If I could have broadband for a tenner a month and put £10 a month on a mobile I'd probably more likely do that but assume that isn't an option currently. You can make calls through the internet or using google or echo speakers too. If I could avoid the landline I would but my package is like pay for line rental and get broadband for free.

I think it's part of my broadband package but I don't have a phone plugged in. I would only ever get cold calls so no point at all.

We haven't had a landline for years, just use the mobiles now. We used it less and less so there was just no point, plus we used to get a lot of cold calls on our landline.
