If LD Removed the Points/reward Scheme, Would You Still Be on Here?

Ask a Question

Not that I’m suggesting this would happen, but it would be interesting to know, particularly those who have been around a long time (as those who haven’t, perhaps having already earned their fiver, seem to just disappear and probably just set up new accounts to do it all over again)

There are several bullies who have disappeared over the last few months and I guess most of us have had a bad comment at some time.

As for being clicky, it is inevitable that some folk with similar interests and ideas will be drawn to each other and it is up to everyone else to join in the chat. I have never ignored anyone on my own threads but I admit that I refuse to take part in silly chats where a quick look on Google would supply the answer. Point gatherer topics are usually not worth the effort and many people don't even reply to those who answer them.

A case in point is the thread what to do if you have no friends, you can find it on search. Good topic but not one single reply from the poster.

Sorry to hear that. The LD community is general friendly, but as it’s grown with more attention and traffic, it has perhaps attracted some undesirables, so some may have suffered the consequences. But Im sure they are working on it - there is a mute button you can use to ignore comments from individuals. And there will always be clicky groups I’m afraid - very much something that naturally occurs in group situations

I'd still be here I'm not sure what the points system is about really lol

If you click on your points next to your icon it will take you to a page which shows you how to collect points, what rewards you earn for them and where you have earned them so far.

Lol guess you are having such a good time on here, it really doesn’t matter 😜 but ultimately you can get vouchers for your contributions

No, Takes a fair bit of time to scout deals/comps/vouchers, think i would be a browser not a poster

If the points were removed, I'm not sure as many would post, and that could lose members.

When I first signed up to LD I mainly came here for the competitions. I initially didn't look into the points and didn't know they could be exchanged for an Amazon e-Gift Card. I would still come for the competitions, but there would probably be a lot less posts on the site without the reward scheme.

I'm not here for the points and never was from the start.

You get so many people posting deals from a same crappy site saying 10% off this, 15% off that and 20% off the other.

I think that the format has to change to stop junk posting and self promotion.

I believe if they remove the points and rewards system the number of deals posted will be less but it may a good deals not the penny deals like we have nowadays

I joined as I like to enter competitions. They are here in one place and you can mark which you entered. I like it a lot. Then I discovered points and I like to collect them I am not going to lie. I am posting deal, competitions, freebies and vouchers. But noy different flavour of noodles of course. I try to post variety of offers. I create couple of chats but I do it very rarely as often I can find answer in previous chats or internet.

I was doing the comps long before I wised up and signed up. Don't often post deals/vouchers unless I see something that's completely different - anyone can go to supermarket. Always get the freebie wrong and late with a lot of comps 😞 but I do and would continue with the interaction 🙂

I was on here for over a year before I realised you could get points. I was just checking out the deals.

I think I would. I initially came across the site due to my love of competitions. I started looking at some of the deals then reading and occasionally posting on chat. Again it was a while before I even knew about the points. Earning points is an added bonus for me but is never going to be a way of getting rich.

I've only joined recently and it seems good and I like the chat forums too. I did post quite alot on another deal site but I'm a bit of a convert to here now but think the rewards system could be a bit fairer on here rewarding those whose deals earn commission.

There are quicker ways to earn vouchers in my opinion on survey sites otherwise rather than posting deals and stuff on here etc each day if that's your only aim!

I've been here since 2017, and for a long time I just posted competitions without ever caring about points. Now I spend almost 100% of my time here just checking reports and other problems.

Counting all the competitions in which I have been drawn, I think the value of the vouchers is insignificant, even for those who follow a daily routine to maximize points, so I would absolutely remain here as long as the competition page continues. 🤣

The points system has to be reviewed as a matter of urgency . Dross deal after Dross deal . Be honest members , the majority just post any old rubbish deals to earn the points .

Has to be looked at - say 5 points per deal posted then 5 points per "like" received or something along those lines .

Might stop the endless Amazon "Chinese Tat" jewellery posts and 3 choices from a clothes retailers sale page with totally unfeasible RRPs to make the "discount" look good .

If members got rewarded for good deals they actually might search a bit harder for a good deal or not bother posting a rubbish deal as they so often do now .

Incidentally the change would not be good for me points wise as many of my deals are for heavily reduced high end golf gear which I accept is of interest to very few members - But at least they are "Deals" .

Anyway I do it because I enjoy sharing deals , not for the points . And if I don't find a deal , maybe for several days - I don't post - Simple !!

I was a member of HUKD long before this site. I posted loads of deals on there because I thought I had found something nobody else had found. That was about true deal hunting. I remember visiting 8 different branches of Tesco because somebody posted a pressure washer that was reduced from something like 100 quid to 20. Granted, I spent another tenner on fuel but I found one! On here, you get rewarded for publishing the weekly list of vegetables Aldi are selling. That's what the points system encourages. Also, criticism. Some people on here absolutely hate it. As long as they are here, that deals page will be plagued with crap because nobody will dare to comment with anything other than "oooh thank you for posting this lovely pack of biscuits, I must go and buy some tomorrow". It's just completely pointless and mundane pleasantry filled drivel which is also rewarded. All I can say is it must be working for business.

Totally agree -As I said previously , when I was after a Laptop I posted many Laptop deals on here (They were good deals and got plenty of "likes" ) - I literally begged for criticism , advice etc - but not a single comment !!

If you are too much of a "shrinking violet " to accept constructive criticism then maybe you shouldn't be posting "non deals " just to gain 100points !

Maybe if members accepted discussion on their deals without going into a "Hissy Fit" this could become a much more informative site ?

Golfforall I don't know if it's a demographic thing or something else. All I know is I am not going to stop pointing out when I think a deal is rubbish and fully expect the same in return if I post a stinker.

Dennab as a previous very active member of HUKD, I'd echo your point and I would say that site is better for true deal hunting. Many of the deals I post here would probably have got rated 'hot' on the other site and has lots more publicity. In some ways the fact some deals get lost here mean they don't always get the level of interest they would on HUKD therefore remain in stock for longer and don't sell out immediately generally. I do like this site but miss the interaction on each deal, whether it is good or not. I think this is because there is so many deals posted on here many of which aren't really greatly discounted so whilst I do like this site it's very different. Both this and HUKD have their perks.

Edited to say I posted this in reply to another thread but linked the wrong thread.

rararachel The problem is with so many rubbish non deals posted (obviously just for the points ) you have to speed scroll through pages of dross deals to find anything worthy of the name "Deal" .

Inevitably its like trying to find a needle in a haystack so maybe the odd decent deal is missed amongst all the dross

Bargain28 I agree an opinion on a product is a subjective thing but if an item is cheaper somewhere else, it's black and white. I constantly question what the main purpose of Latest Deals is really, for members and the people running it. I expected something similar to HUKD when I joined personally. While we all have our ideas of what it should be, there will be disagreements.

Dennab maybe they don't realise that it's cheaper somewhere else I posted something yesterday that I thought was good for 125 pound which I thought was good and unique I then found it for 95 quid which is a massive reduction this retailer only had one so I didn't post cause I thought what is the point best to share a product for everyone rather than one 😃

Bargain28 You post whatever you think is best. That's the beauty of any website like this! The issue is mainly some people's lack of willingness to accept criticism. The other problem is the different views of what is worth posting. A pack of biscuits with 10p off or the weekly Aldi Super 6 are not worth posting in my opinion because they are every day offers that we are all aware of. Your 'Rainbow Memo Cube' deal for instance is a good discount if it was genuinely £10 before and it is not a product and discount everybody would have known about without seeing your post.

Bargain28 Regarding people realising whether something is cheaper elsewhere, I don't think they all check. You at least spotted that lower price elsewhere and made a conscious decision. Some people seem to just go through the sale page on a website, pick out a few products and post them on here without checking if they are actually a good deal and cheaper than other places. That would require more time and effort than they are willing to put in if the drive behind their posts is acquiring points and not the pride of finding a good deal.

What is it about posting the same 'freebie' every month? Some appear to be on speed dial, yep it's a quick 30 points per day but surely we don't need to know every month about the same item and sometimes from 3 different sources.

Lol don’t worry, I doubt the system will be removed, especially as they’ve introduced further ways to get points by giving reviews. There are always people moaning about removing points, so my intention with this topic was to give people the opportunity to let it loose...as you can see I created it a year ago, but it obviously became a hot topic again lol

I don't think everybody does that and tbh your out of fashion maybe something someone really wanted but couldn't afford when it was full price I think the ld community is very fair to all and to be honest what is popular on one site is not popular to another hotuk deals could sell sunglasses to Eskimos they have been around that long 😃😃

Strange that there are always 3 a day from the same posters , no more ? I am no expert on ladies fashion - but I do know the RRPs are inflated and I could pick 3 "bargains " a day off several websites I could mention .

Doesn't make them "deals " though does it ? Be honest you have to admit 90% of the so called "deals" on here are dross!

The points system has to be changed to reward those who take the time to find good deals which occur all too infrequently and say 10 points for "thanks for trying " dross deals that even the lovely LD membership can not bring themselves to use up one of their 3 a day (5pts) likes on ?
