Learning as an Older Adult
Ask a Question
I did a BA course in university and I see that the open university is doing free courses. seriously, if you fancy learning please DO go for it, it is very emotionally hard but satisfying and confidence boosting. I'm doing my MA now, who else is doing uni learning - oh and I'm 55 ;)
I agree with leaning as an older adult I do it a lot. Joking aside It is nice to hear somebody enjoying learning, great that it boosted your confidence. Free courses are always good value, shame tuition fees are so high for a degree.
Iv just completed a criminology and now Doing law
Then hopefully onto to my law degree what Iv always wanted
43 and finally doing it
You are never too old to learn. In fact, I think in some ways it is better when you are older as you'd be more committed.
I just started uni as a student nurse, one of the 18 year olds said its nice that there are older more mature women on the course... I'm only 26, she made me feel 40
Most regular chat readers will know that I very much advocate learning throughout life. There is never any reason to stop as we take in various bits of info daily.
It is great to do academic learning but anyone can teach themselves, especially if they have a subject they love....mine being history.
I had to start a health and hygiene course for working in my daughters pub and I’m over 50. Seems easier and more interesting when your older and not forced to do it.
its great to learn at any age, theres never a time where your too old to learn something new, i find it harder to fit in the older ye get
Thank you all for contributing to this post and liking it. I wish a few more had 'liked' it but, commenting is good thank you. I do hope it will encourage others to do as I am doing. *** thanks again.
Go for it, I would deffo recommend it if your wanting a career change. I would love to go to University and study Law one day and I'm almost 30 you're never too old or too young.
Lifelong student. Many great courses for free.I encourage the all.Learnning as an adult as of choice is sooo much more fun.
I see that, since I posted this, there are a LOT of New Year courses coming up for the mature adult student? Are they playing down to the fact we have too much times on our hand because of lockdown, or that many are still not in work so we must perhaps want to do something? Good promotions though.
I've noticed more and more companies setting up, with "degrees" that are not at all academically connected to the educations services. They are taking your money at £29 a time and you get a "diploma" that frankly is not worth the paper it's printed on. Disgusting.
I went to college in my 30s and got a diploma in gardening and I left school no qualifications....
I am just wondering, considering that thesis "Black Friday" and whilst we are all looking for those "special bargains" has anyone seen any really good educational discounts? I don't necessarily mean university but academic books or supplies, or course online?
