I Left My Freezer Door Open and Everything is Ruined. Such a Fool
Ask a Question
I know there's far worse going on. Just can't believe that I did it especially whilst there hardly any meat and frozen veg in my local supermarkets. Anyway I hope your day gets off to a better start Has anyone else done this? Or it is just me that's a fool
I turned mine off at my old house as I didn't know what the cable was that was blocking the doorway to the garage. My mother had moved the freezer and didn't tell me. I thought what is this blocking my way and turned if off. A whole freezer full ruined and defrosted. So, yes, I've done this.
Hi, oh no about your mum having moved it, it's such a pain to have a freezer full ruined. I feel bad as it's such a waste, but, I just have to laugh and start again
Been there, done that. If it was 'raw' food get it cooked quick and put it back. Unfortunately you can't save it all.
Hi lilyflower Ah no, it's such a pain x I threw it all out as it was soft. I was lucky and managed to get some mince so going to make lasagne and cottage pie and freeze some
Dani1 Ah well you know for next time lol. If it's raw meat it's ok to cook and refreeze.
lilyflower That's so true, I didn't realise (and it's common sense now I think of it lol) Hopefully I won't do it again, but you never know
Yep! been there and had to own up to it. Is there any way you can cook the meats and prep curries etc and freeze again?
Hi angemski I couldn't believe I had done it. It's good that you owned up to it Unfortunately I couldn't save it. But just have to get on with it. Found some mince in the supermarket so that's a start
angemski It'll be fine, honestly. I think everyone will calm down soon Ah have you had difficulties getting all the right ingredients?
angemski That really made me smile. I know what you mean about not adding to the madness. They say it's good to try new things
Oh dear! I think we've all been there I've definitely left the door slightly ajar and the food has all turned to mush. Hopefully your supermarkets aren't too bad and you can replenish the food
Hi HannahSunderlan I'm glad I'm not the only one Was able to get some meat today so that's handy. Thanks, I hope that the supermarkets will be ok soon. I really feel for their workers
We have had that too but seeing as I don't get much money a month, I just did what they tell you not to and refroze and ate it (it was all frozen food initially, nothing fresh) Can't afford to throw food away.
I was fine
Hi ukheather it did cross my mind but I thought there's enough going on atm. I couldn't take the chance. I'm glad you were fine, you are braver then me
If we don't laugh we cry eh lol so yeah same happened to us ice cream river in the kitchen haha x
So true and it's not worth crying over lol I was lucky that I didn't have that happen, don't fancy an ice cream river Although I miss my kinder bueno ice cream x
Dani1 I mean I'm trying hold it together with everything going on so I gotta laugh and gotta love ice cream lol x
Loislane Oh I didn't realise it happened today to you too x It's not worth worrying about. It's just one of those things. Best to laugh it off for sure
Dani1 my anexety all over the place hun but I'll be OK hugs tc enjoy ya soup x
Loislane I know it's easier said than done at this time but try not to worry. Look after yourself x
If your freezer is off for 4 hours that is a problem....because than everything defrost...
Hi, AgnesFaludi yes it was for over 4 hours so the food is ruined but it'll be ok
Hi Dani1, can you claim on your house insurance? Take a photo of the wasted food before you throw it away and do a rough total of the cost. This happened to me once but thankfully I was able to make a claim.
What a shame, especially at the moment. Tinned soup for you then?
Hi gerrykelly25 thank you, I didn't think about making a claim tbh and have already thrown it away. If it happens again I will take pictures. That's great that you were able to make a claim as it is a costly mistake. I'll be ok with my soup I'm not fussy
Many people wrongly think that just because food has thawed or partially thawed that it cannot be refrozen, there are only a few things that can't be, the main danger is if it has reached room temperature. I suggest people check online before throwing defrosted food away. Food doesn't always even need to be cooked before it's refrozen.
Thanks very much. I just couldn't take the risk. But if it were to happen again I'll check online for sure
Hi Sanitation1234 thanks so much. I just had to laugh it off. Oh no about the coke can that must have been a pain to clear up. It's nice to hear from you and I hope you are ok too. Take care and see you later
Sanitation1234 Hi, good evening Sorry I was working and missed your message. That's so lovely that your neighbour is nice. It makes all the difference. You're very kind, thank you. It's lovely talking to you too. Take care and best wishes to you and your family
I doubt its ruined just refreeze it i have done it millions of times and never had a rumble tumble!
Dont listen to all the nay sayers you can refreeze chicken and meat etc its all PC overkill!
Where abouts are you from, if your local ive got some vegetables, veggies and vegan stuff i could share?x
Thanks so much for your kind offer. The stockpilers have calmed down slightly and it's been ok. Thanks again and take care
Dani1 its still absolutely crazy here for food. People are just buying for the sake of it im sure. Were on day 12 of our isolating but the amount the neighbours are dragging in is unreal! Glad youve got it sorted x
Rest assured 9 days on from your post, supermarkets appear to recovering from the onslaught of pure idiocy so you will be able to restock.
