Leftovers at Restaurants

Ask a Question

So restaurants are now being encouraged to offer customers the opportunity to doggy bag their leftovers

I thought that this option was always available, and all you had to do was ask, although I know a lot of people wouldn’t want the hassle

is this something you already do?

I don’t think I’ve ever had meat as a leftover before. Usually lots of carbs or some veg, but never meat. But definitely not something that should go to waste 😊

I've never really had this problem. I always eat everything on the plate and still want more 😊

Lol it’s the same for me usually, but there have been occasions where the eye was bigger than the belly, and I can’t waste food...if I can’t stuff it down, it’s coming home with me 😊

We always take any leftovers home. We went out for dinner recently and my mum didn't finish her chicken so brought it home for the dog. We don't tend to have that many leftovers though.

If its pizza, i would 100% take it home with me, because i know i would eat it the next day, but if it was chips, they go soggy, if it was rice, you shouldnt reheat it, and most things i wouldn’t want to eat two days in a row..

I ALWAYS take left overs lol. Paid for it!! Sometimes its hard to finish a big meal. So comes in handy for lunch the next day. Depends what it is. If its rice then no no.

I think this is a great idea and it stops food waste. I recently changed Beefeater points over for a free bottle of wine with the meal but because our friends had to cancel very last minute (while we were seated) I ended up drinking two thirds of a bottle because I wasn't brave enough to ask for a lid and take it home and was totally 'mellow' by the time we got home. Totally stupid but I didn't want to waste the freebie I had either.

Ah yes, i never thought about unfinished wine before, and wasn’t sure about the rules with regards to alcohol. I recently went somewhere where we had half a bottle left, but was told we were not permitted to take it with us, due to licensing laws, I think. I hate wasting anything, but I didn’t want to neck it down either

hspexy it is a performance I don't intend to repeat - it was late afternoon and I can't drink more than a glass during daylight hours. (must be the vampire in me..)

This has always been sort of an option but some feel embarrassed by it.

I do this all the time. I can't eat all the portions to me as they are too big and I usually go for a takeaway box. I am not ashamed and the waiter always says "sure, let me go a bed grab you one".

I have taken leftovers home before. But I only usually do that when it's something that's easy to take home for example when there is a fajita or burrito style item left. Makes it easy to wrap in foil.

I don't think I have ever been in a situation where I needed to bring anything home expect for pizza. I generally get something smaller knowing there will be something left on the kids plates so I eat that instead. Kinda just like most evening dinners too. Yet worth doing as they do more so in the US. Might as well use the grub up rather than making yet more waste.

i was looking about and seen yesturday

there is a app called togoodtogo

that as pubs and resturants ext that sell off there left over food they call it a magic bag

and you pay half the normal price.

i have not used it myself but to what i have seen you just put you location in and a list off palces near to you come up and they tell you how many bags they have on offer

i think you may pay online but im not sure

thanks for the recommendation. Yes I looked into this app last year and it’s great for people in areas where there are a lot of restaurants nearby. A friend recently got a full English breakfast from a nearby Hilton hotel for £2.49 and was very happy with it. It’s worth checking out, especially if you’ve got places nearby

Take leftovers every time. I have paid for it so why would I pay for a portion of leftovers to end up in a bin?

Just freeze most of the leftovers for later or cook something else from it next day.
