Lets Make a List of Life Hacks
Other
I love anything that makes my life easier. So thought we could suggest life hacks to each other… I’ll start…
We have sheet-less duvets… it’s a duvet with a sheet stitched in. We got ours from Amazon. So you throw the whole duvet in the machine (need a decent size machine) saves the annoying 5 mins of trying to get the sheet back on the duvet!
When I have done my clothes washing, I always hang items, that can be hung on coat hangers. They dry quick and need less ironing.
eyeballkerry I agree! It’s what I have been doing all along! I also reverse clothes too as then both sides are dried!
kitty88uk That makes sense, so they dry quicker as well. Another ‘hack’, I taught my youngest how to iron. I can go out and find it all done by the time I get back!
eyeballkerry yeah definitely drying on both sides the clothes dries faster!! Haha cool ironing clothes does take a lot of time and effort!
Wow I didn’t know they made those duvets. That’s a good idea especially for those with kids who have to make multiple beds. Personally I don’t mind making my bed
I use a flat sheet under the duvet that’s covered so you only need to change pillow cases and sheets.
comriegold nice one! I have been using washing up gloves just for this haha great tip!
comriegold If you have a jar this is particularly hard to open I use a jarkey which releases the seal, it's brilliant.
tumblespots oh that’s great item to have! How much are they? Don’t see these in supermarkets I don’t think
kitty88uk I got mine from Amazon, just type in 'jarkey' and it will give you several to choose from in different colours, they aren't expensive - around £5 depending on which you choose. I use mine quite a lot.
tumblespots I see thanks
I could buy one and pay using gift card balance I have saved up but need to have a spend of £25 for free delivery
But have to look through each item make sure they are sold and dispatched by them to be able to use gift card
kitty88uk I am pretty sure that you can use your gift card on any purchase through Amazon but I agree about the minimum £25 charge which is a bit of a pain! Of course, that doesn't apply if it is coming from an independent supplier but then you have to be careful about their delivery charges too.
tumblespots yeah £25 spend is annoying
Yeah have to make sure any item I want is sold and dispatched by them to be able to use gift card
I’ve already bought some food items a few weeks ago
kitty88uk I've bought things through amazon before and regardless of whether amazon are supplying the item direct or not I have used the gift card successfully
Descale your Kettle with Lemon & Lime double concentrate squash from ASDA. It works and It Is much cheaper than the proper descaler. The bottle will last you along time as you only need about half of cup. Try It as Its only a pound and 10 pence for the bottle.
Emerge11 wow this sound like a great money saving hack, I'm definitely going to try. Thanks
I make my own garlic butter, as I grow garlic, I then freeze it in ice cube trays to give a measured amount later when I want to use it.
My local Co op was selling off bottles of oil a few months ago. When the lemons are reduced I buy them and make lemon oil. I made some up yesterday as I do a lot of home cooking. I do the same with fresh chillies and fresh garlic. Much better and cheaper than the shops own make.
I use a diluted bio-detergent in a spray bottle ... and spray it as a carpet deodoriser (rather than that horrible shaker powder). Then leave for 10 minutes or so before vacuuming.
Talcum powder is utterly brilliant at lifting oil based stains from clothes. It got pizza oil off a very expensive highland dancing kilt
Pfs I honestly couldn't believe it worked . It was on the cream coloured part of a £500.00 wool kilt. Just heavy sprinkled the powder on. Lifted it right off.
comriegold I've just split cup of coffee on the carpet so will try it to see if it helps in any way
comriegold omg is it I will need to try it iam always getting stains on clothes its a bib I need lol
comriegold its also really good at getting rid of bubbles left in the bath after my grandkids have used half a bottle of bubble bath. Just trying to rinse it away takes ages but talcum powder pops the bubbles
