A Level GCE Results Moderation Removed !

In the News

Well , what do you think !

Teachers and schools overassessed their pupils by 10 -30% , these results were moderated down to still be 5-10% better than previous years .

Seemed fair enough to me , although as always there would have been odd mistakes in the process which required correction .

Now we have a years worth of pupils , many of whom will not be capable of staying the course , trotting off to Uni .

Why amidst all the recriminations haven't teachers and schools been questioned about their gross over assessments ?

Is this just one giant smokescreen being put up by schools and teachers to draw media attention away from their failings/raising hopes in their deeply flawed initial assessments ?

It's beyond a joke.

Why don't they just give an A to everyone who managed to write their name on the mock?

Employers already don't trust the grades given out in schools/unis, because education has been watered down to such a ridiculous degree and the percentage pass rate has been rising for the last 30 years.

It's always been a problematic area , some pupils just can't do exams well (handy for Uni !) .

What I don't get this year is Ofqual , the Government , Mrs Browns dog , in fact everyone is being blamed except the teachers and schools who overassessed by 20 % in the first place !

For some reason that escapes me I have not seen this questioned at all in the media .

Good luck to all the kids who now have their Uni place and maybe many will grow into it . Sadly many will struggle and inevitably drop out which I think will be a worse situation for many youngsters .

Hope the schools and teachers are held to account in future years for the performance of this years cohort ,whom they assessed !

Golfforall I read in the news just now that a pair of identical twins passed EIGHT A levels at A* grade.

This would have been absolutely impossible when I was in school and shows how poor the level of work that is needed to pass a subject is.

TheChimp I just hope that once this "tugging at the heartstrings " media coverage dies down attention will turn to the original overassessments .

Unless this years pupils are 20-30% more intelligent that previous years then something is seriously wrong with our schools and their ability to honestly assess their pupils !
