Library book returned 50 years Late , whats your longest overdue date ?

In the News

Normally books people forget to return to the library are only possibly a few days late

But this one , Havelock the warrior was a mere 50 years late

If it was not for the amnesty they had, the fine would have amounted to £4,300 , enough to buy a cavalry of warrior books

Have you forgotten to return a library book in the past and possibly had a fine ?

SamGoodship That's the norm S , not too excessive like this one .

I hope the art of reading books never completely disappears , with kindles and such being so popular now

I think libraries are a great place to go , not just for reading but for so many other reasons

telmel I love our library!

I tried a kindle a couple of times and couldn't get on with it. Nothing beats the feel of a real book for me.

My local library does lots of events too like a colouring club, lego club, crafts sessions for grown ups etc

SamGoodship Yes S , it can be a social club as well as just a place to lend books or read and study.

I think they have tried to keep up with the times by installing PCs and the like so fingers crossed things like kindles don't kill them off

Pjran That was nice to do that P

Schools are more forgiving, i don't think they fine you the same as public libraries

You just reminded me my son has a library book that's lost in the house somewhere. Luckily kids don't pay fines at our local library.

telmel - In my district\town I had several books overdue and was prepared to pay the fine, until I found out there was a amnesty from December 2022 - March 31 2023. Phew.

Howmuch

Only ever used college and uni libraries, never had any overdue. To OCD for that.

Howmuch OCD can have advantages H

I had a colleague years ago that was OCD and at the end of the day he needed to write up a report for units sold to get his payment

Most people would make mistakes doing this that could cause them to lose their payment

But he would spend hours going over it again and again , it was always perfect, and he was one of the most successful there
