They are worse in my opinion. You are now having to spend more but getting less. I hope this isn't a permanent change, I would miss the £10 off. I think they should add these new ones on top off the current ones.

MrsCraig I was thinking the same thing unless you spend £100 it's worse. I like the £10 one myself.

tracisinclair01 I never spend £100 in one shop at Lidl, so it definitely would be a worse deal for me.

MrsCraig neither do I even with a current family of 6 and buying my mum's shopping at same time. I'm definitely going to miss the £10 off.

tracisinclair01 I'm hoping it's not a permanent change, that it is only for that month.

Probably will be because they are having a price war with asda

DarrenWorts according to the email I received it's for a free cleaning item from their own W5 range. Don't know if it changes every month or not. X

Occasionally Lidl Plus app throws me a £5 off coupon because I don't shop there regularly. I tend to rotate the supermarkets I use and this keeps them throwing money off coupons to me. I also do combined shops with my mother who also gets her own coupons. I think at the moment I have some coupons for £4 off £20 at Waitrose, I recent used a £3 off £20 at Tesco and have some more that are only £2 off £20. My mother has £6 off £40 Sainsbury coupons. Now there is the Asda app and my mother often gets Morrisons vouchers too. The only shop I never get coupons for is Aldi which is the nearest supermarket to me. I find all supermarkets have better offers than others although that is a rarity at Waitrose admittedly but then sometimes they are the same price as other supermarkets for some big brand items and £4 off £20 is a big discount and choose the right time of day and you can get some big discounts of fresh food that is almost out of date some of which is very high quality. If a coupon is £3 off £20 I would only spend £20 there to maximise the value which is about all I can carry if walking anyway and is a good bit of exercise walking up a hill with 12kg of shopping. I use my car as little as possible nowadays for obvious reasons.

I couldn't use Lidl regularly anyway, it has a limited range and is missing many items I want and some items I find poor quality and other items are surprisingly poor value compared to other supermarkets. I've had some ice cream there that was exceptionally poor quality and very watery and some pastries that had hardly any filling, other items that were bland or strange tasting. My Lidl's always seems to have very small bananas which are a false economy and bags of onions where 1 or 2 are rotten at the core. I have learned to know what I like in Lidl and its both great value and good quality.

Lidl clearly wants customers to be loyal to them and do more of their shopping there but I think its wiser to play supermarkets against each other by using them infrequently so they keep sending you coupons. Sometimes I skip a week where I don't go to a supermarket and then it seems like the next week some coupons will be sent to me. Also I feel like making smaller purchases triggers coupons. If you go into Lidl and just spend £8 it feels like a coupon is more likely to happen in a week or so. I don't know what the algorithm is that triggers coupons but presumably such shops are analysing our shopping data somehow.

BonzoBanana I usually order online for the easy delivery and often alternate shops. This week I had a load of £8 off a £40 spend in Waitrose. So guess we’ll be shopping there for the next few weeks.

Lidl have never openEd up online shopping here.

Pjran Yeah Lidl don't do online shopping except for middle aisle stuff I think. Be careful with Waitrose £8 off £40 could still be difficult to get decent value because stuff is soo much more expensive at Waitrose. The other week they had 40 sachets of Felix at a competitive price and a few items that were competitive with other supermarkets but a lot of it is very expensive. I mean there essential range which is a value range can be twice as expensive as other value ranges. I would definitely research Waitrose prices before going so you know if its worthwhile for the stuff you need and you go in with a list of reasonable items to buy. Then it can be great value with a big 20% off discount.

BonzoBanana I’m a regular Waitrose shopper mainly online deliveries so I’m assuming these vouchers are to get me back in store. I know a lot of their range is more expensive but they also have very good offers and give loyal customers two vouchers every week of things I buy regularly.

Pjran I still miss the free paper and coffee. I probably only go into Waitrose now about a 5th of what I used to and that is basically when they send me vouchers to use.

BonzoBanana I wonder if they’ll ever bring back the coffee, mind you they must have sold millions of travel cups.

Pjran I still see the coffee machines there in Waitroses but nothing is happening with them. They could do a simple spend £15 or more and get a coffee or £25 or more for 2 coffees. I feel it was one of Waitroses unique selling points and they pretty much abandoned it. I do feel the free paper was less of a bonus for me as I would never actually buy a paper myself but liked the occasional free one at Waitrose.

BonzoBanana in fairness to them they didn’t abandon it, health and safety due to the pandemic was the cause.

Pjran It's no different to having a coffee in a any shop like costa express machines or other coffee outlets. I go into Wetherspoons and buy a coffee for £1.15 and you get free refills. I think once I had 4 refills but typically average 2. I start with a mocha, then perhaps have a hot chocolate and then maybe a capuchinno to finish. They say get a fresh cup each time but they are never available and everyone uses their existing cup.

Most of these shops that sell coffee have been operating for a long time now. I mean I can't remember when Costa were closed for the pandemic but it seems sometime ago now. I can handle fresh vegetables and fruit in Waitrose but can't pick up a cup and press a button on a machine? It's definitely a commercial decision at this point. Also Waitrose customers look smart and clean but Wetherspoons some of them look like they have climbed out of a skip if you know what I mean.

hspexy I'm glad they are still offering something too. I wonder if it because they have a lot more customers due to price increases and the old scheme isn't sustainable anymore

Definitely worse off. Having to spend an extra £50 in the month to get 10% off next shop rather than a £10 coupon. Assuming you have to use the 10% within 7 days like the current T&Cs, you then have to spend another £100 before getting like for like. However, not even like for like as you've already spent an extra £50. Personally will start buying more elsewhere to get better discounts.

Definitely worse. The £10 coupon was better. I've never spent over £100 in one shop.

I hardly ever shop so won't make any difference to me as I never get the rewards. It would be nice to have a reward for a £30 shop as well.

The old scheme was one of the reasons we started shopping at Lidl. Our weekly shop normally comes to around £78. The new scheme means that I would now need to spend an extra £50 per month just to get a 10% reduction on £78. If this is a permanent change I will start shopping elsewhere.
