Lockdown Foods! - What've You All Been Cooking?

Other

Just a lighthearted post! (Not at all me fishing for ideas!)

So I've been quite interested in the chains like Greggs who released some of their recipes during the first lockdown - didn't actually do them, still on the to-do list.

Pre-lockdown when my kids were doing their clubs t'other half and I got in the habit of going to the McDonalds drive-thru on the way back from dropping them off for a wrap of the day - nice little routine and it meant I didn't have to cook twice when I'd already fed the kids.

Since covid homemade wraps have very much been our lockdown food - super easy and I can fit in around homeschooling, toddler-taming, whatever else we have going on - we do breakfast wraps (hash browns, sausage, fried egg, cheese) or might have wraps for lunch/dinner (chicken goujons, salad, chilli sauce - fish fingers, salad, mayo etc etc)

Sooo what's everyone else been craving and cooking? Anyone tried to replicate their favourite eat-out foods or learnt to cook anything they've always wanted to do?

I've been batch cooking chicken curries lately - they're very warming in this cold weather that we're having.

My husband has been making his own chicken fried rice and chicken balls. They are absolutely amazing, just as good as our local Chinese but less greasy and much cheaper.

He has also been making his own chicken fillet burgers, potato bread. We often vary what we eat and try new recipes. I always write a shopping list each week so when my husband finds a new recipe he tells me what he needs, luckily none of them are expensive.

SuzJ he made them for dinner last night, they were absolutely delicious. We are very organised when it comes to food, we meal plan what we want that week and then it goes on the list. We are trying to go to the shops less so using what's in the cupboards and the freezer just now too.

I just cook by day and just see what we all fancy. If its like cottage pie, regular pie etc il pre make around lunch time to just pop in the oven at dinner. Cold weather the fanon tilt toward stews so slow cooker it is lol

We've been cooking regular stuff during lockdown. I'm not really into trying to recreate things from restaurants, takeaways, etc- it would never turn out the same, not even close!

I've been really trying some new stuff whilst we've been in lockdown as like most people I've had nothing else to do!! I've made paella, fish pie, chicken korma, quiches. Probably doesnt sound that exciting but I was never really much of a cook before so its been nice for us to try new things 🙂

Aside from not being able to dine restaurants, I haven't really changed my eating or food shopping habits during lockdown. Although, thanks to social distancing I have been adding more garlic to dishes 🧄
