Lollipop People.....

Other

Do you have a Lollipop Person near your childs school?

An 89 year old man who has been doing it for free for 24 years has been told he has to stop because they are making cuts and can't afford to insure him.

Yeah they cut ours too, same lady had been doing it forever, I know there was objections to it, but the council wasn't interested

This country has gone mad, lollipop people are an institution and do a great job. The roads are only getting busier.

We have a lovely lollipop man who works opposite my daughters pub. He is a bit of a regular after work. The kids and parents love him, he did well in the pub at Christmas, everyone was buying him drinks, luckily his shift had finished.

On one hand this will make everybody really cross.......but then again it won't!

Our last local one was replaced by a full pelican crossing last year. To be honest the new crossing is a lot safer for everyone

didbygraham We don't have a crossing or a lollipop person by ours and with everyone parking on the pavements, it makes it hard to see when crossing the road. So dangerous.

There are a few nearby but I can’t see the younger generation ever aspiring to take on that kind of work - soon enough it’ll all be lights and tech that control us

Some councils mainly due to their own utter incompetence are having to make huge cuts and to be honest these cuts do make sense. Lots more services will be cut in the future this is only the very beginning. I can see main bin collections going to monthly at some point and lots of public toilets being closed completely and parks getting far less maintenance.

Samgoodship, in a way, yes, because some of the kids just run across the road

My granddaughters school doesn't have one..but another nearby school does..so not sure what the criteria is to make the difference..every school should have one..I remember our lollipop lady from 50 years ago..Mrs. Tyson x
