Man Who Played People's Postcode Lottery for Eight Years Left Fuming at 'Win'

In the News

Whenever you turn on the tv there are always adverts to enter and win the Postcode Lottery

It's probably the second most popular way to win some money after the lottery

So when Chris Cork got a package from them he thought he was one of the winners, he even went outside to see if the filmcrew were hiding somewhere to surprise him with a big fat cheque

But elation turned into disappointment when he opened the package, all he had won was a consolation prize, two small bars of soap, and they didn't even have a scent

He went on social media to complain, but i reckon he will 'wash his hands' of them after this

Just an added observation, doesn't he bear a slight resemblance to an old character from Coronation Street , Rob Donovan , you know, that other 'soap' opera , his face a picture after realising his consolation prize 😀

I can understand his frustration, as this is similar to receiving an email with the subject saying "Winner!" only to then open the email to find out that I have 'won' a runners up 'prize' of a 10% off a £500 spend or something.

We played it for about five years, never won anything so cancelled payments.

I get his frustration, don’t think there is anywhere on their site says you could win soap.

kimcress I never knew either K, you would have least have expected a cash consolation prize

telmel a small monetary consolation prize would be apt, but soap? Of If I was in his shoes I’d be complaining also!

kimcress telmel Yep you can get non-cash prizes www.postcodelottery.co.uk/about-us/faq/what-non-cash-prizes-can-i-win I also hate the 'winner' email to find you're not, I've just had one for outdoor toys and got £8 off any purchase.

lilyflower I also dislike these e mails L, i get them all the time, Its called clickbait

When i see them in my mailbox headed, hi winner , or you have won etc etc , i just delete without reading, normally if you win a competition the heading is the name of the competition with none of this, and when you open it it will be informing you of the prize and what to do

telmel Needless to say it's in the delete bin. The idea of entering the comp was to win something we couldn't afford. A much more pleasant surprise was the letter from a magazine saying I'd won a £200 love2shop voucher 🙂

martinlufc5637 Thats the way these lottery competitions are M, they do the publicity to bait everyone when someone wins , but i bet they don't publicise the runner up prizes

I've seen it advertised but never done it. So much gambling nowadays. I did get a recent £50 win on my premium bonds but its been many years since my last premium bond win. At least with premium bonds you never loose your stake and the costs of running it are quite low so much more money is returned into the prize fund but of course its only the interest that is used for prizes but it is tax free.

BonzoBanana I have never had premiums bonds B, as you say you lose nothing ,only inflation , but that's worth it for a chance of a prize

Firstly I had an interesting conversation about this with my Mother when she was alive. I could not get her to understand that Lotterys are gambling. Whether they are free and you are gambling the time it takes you to participate or there is money involved, either way it is technically still gambling. I know many people are prepared to pay for the fun side of these things but how anyone get upset at losing or winning small, when they were fully aware there was a chance of this happenning is beyond me.

EmmaWright762 I think in this case he was just angry and wanted to let off steam, also maybe he thought they would give him something extra , who knows , possibly he got paid for the article ?

Someone was a social media site the other week and was asking people to congratulate her, everyone thought it was a big win, then she showed something like some teabags they had sent her.

I have won on this about 8 times since playing it (it's a guess of a number) but varied from a few £10 wins to a free item from a choice rubbish to a voucher for something else and free trials. Possibly had a tea bag and soap. Overall disappointing and did not expect to get non cash wins
