I can't believe a slice of their cake is about £4 and you can go in the food hall and actually buy a full cake for that money also these marshmallow biscuits you get 2 in the cafe for £1.50 and the food hall £1.50 for a pack of 12
You're so right. That's some cheeky pricing! Thanks so much for letting us know so that no-one else on here gets ripped off!
I noticed this in Sainsbury’s - they charge £2.50 for 1 mini free from Bakewell tart in my local Sainsbury’s cafe, but you can get a box of 4 full size ones on the shop floor for £1.75, or 2 mini ones for £1 in the sandwiches section! It’s crazy how they change the prices based on where you get it from.
I hear you and 100% agree it is madness. Yet if you look at the operational costs to run the food hall from staff to equipment etc.... that is why the price is more. In addition all the in store food halls are there for friends & family to relax and catch their breath. The social aspect. If we were all in a rush we would have bought it directly from the shelves and opened at home. I still do consider it a rip off.
It’s alwYs been like so. It’s overhead and staff serving and whatever. If you’re savvy you won’t and if your belly is shouting you will. Bake your own cake?!
It’s the same with John Lewis cafes and Waitrose cakes. Mind you, at least they used to offer the hot drink and cake for free now and again in the cafes previously
