Martin Lewis vs Facebook

News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-46972940

Didn't realise that FB falsely used his image to say he endorsed investments, nor would I have believed them to begin with

Something for Tom to watch out for in the future!

I have big respect for Mr Lewis and commend him on his efforts to fix this problem.

Martin Lewis has done loads for people with money problems and I remember him talking about being used to endorse things he definitely had not. I also commend him for spending 300,000k (I think that's correct) of his own money to distribute a booklet to schools giving kids information about money. Not often do people put their money where their mouth is.

Yes he has a true passion for saving money and helping others, which definitely is inborn in him. His site is often one I check for financial advice 👍 and one of the first ones around, that I was aware of

Just heard this on the news - it isn't exactly Facebook who are doing it, it's more that they weren't doing enough to stop it. Apparently it will get easier to take action on scam adverts within three months.

Facebook have agreed to pay £3million to the Citizens Advice Bureau (to help others who've been scammed and to pay Martin's legal costs - which are over £100,000.

Like Tom I have the greatest respect for Martin - his price comparison site gets you the best deal irrespective of whether the company recommended is paying MSE.

Always remember if you see Martin's picture on any advert - IT IS A SCAM! (he doesn't do adverts)

davidstockport tbh I can't see how the likes of FB or social media can patrol and monitor all posts that end up on their sites, unless they adopt the policies put in place by some of the centres in the Far East, but lots of people will complain about censorship, dictatorship, etc. It's good they are doing something about it, and Martin Lewis definitely is a champion for the average Joe

hspexy I don't want to get political but if he was a prime ministerial candidate (irrespective of party) that party would get my vote.😀

hspexy he would probably be better suited to chancellor of the exchequer lol.

Lynibis I was going to say that - but as Prime Minister he could tell the Chancellor what to do.😀

(and he would😀)

davidstockport too true. The fact he paid for those books tells me he is honest and I feel he would not put greed for power and money above the good of his country.

Lynibis Too many multi millionaires have got there by "foul means" Martin IMHO is not one of them. He deserves everything he has earned. (strange as I was typing that it came on radio again about this)
