Do You Have to Have Matching Kitchen Appliances?

Ask a Question

I’ve never really been fussed about whether or not appliances match - as long as they work, I got them at a good price, and as long as they last, I’m happy

so my kettle is white plastic, my toaster is chrome, the microwave is matte metal, the oven is from the 80s so it’s brown...I don’t think anything goes with anything!

however, I do know people who care about these things. At least one person I know has a problem with the way an electric kettle looks...they prefer the traditional kettle...

I do try and match appliances by colour, my small worktop items are all stainless steel. The larger appliances are almost all white (not the big fridge though, as that didn't come in white!)

As long as everything does the job it is intended for it really doesn't matter, it's all personal preference. 🐞

As long as it works, I'm not fussed what they look like! Our kettle and toaster match but that is because we had vouchers so bought fancier ones than we would have so they came as a set. They are cream, our oven, fridge, mashing machine and dish washer are all white. We bought ex floor models and the best we could afford at the time and they all just happened to be white. Our microwave is black, but it is in our cupboard so not on show. Our bin is yellow as we brought it from our old house! I'm not really fussed whether everything matches. Ours look fine as they are all neutral colours.

I generally do not stand appliances out in my main kitchen as my house is super minimal. I do not have a kettle as I have had a hot water tap for the last 12 years which works a treat.

I have a red kitchen aid that is on the kitchen surface, but that is it. Anything else is in my second kitchen that includes a Magimix and a toaster. They do not match. In fact the toaster is donkeys old.

Xx

Ceebers You have 2 kitchens!? I wish I had 2 bathrooms, I never thought of having 2 kitchens. Anyone else here has 2 kitchens? I'm intrigued.

Oh, and to answer the question my appliances don't match but they are in neutral colours (black or silver)

gaelle0501 I have just left a job where I was cleaning for customers and some houses had 5 bathrooms!! I mean surely that is abit over the top no matter how much money you have?! Don’t think I ever saw 2 kitchens though!

My appliances are just neutral colours and I personally don’t like bright coloured kitchen appliances and utensils!

AliceBell64468 Yes 5 bathrooms is a bit OTT! No wonder they need help with their cleaning. Must take ages.

gaelle0501 The person who built the house has a small kitchen at the back so we built a kitchen in the main heart of the house. I basically think of the original kitchen as a utility room, but it does have a gas hob, extractor fan, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer too in it.

AliceBell64468 I have three bathrooms. I delegate cleaning my partner's to him. I think builders generally, with new builds and how families live these days, they try to include at least an en suite and a family bathroom. Xx

I’ve been meaning to get a hot water tap installed, or at least one of tanks that dispenses hot water instantly. The less appliances, the better - always a pain when one breaks down...perhaps the reason why I don’t bother matching anything 😜

the kettle, the blender and the toaster looks similar in style, the rest of the things just random.

And we try to match the plates and mugs.

No. I mean, it would be nice, but I get things when I need them, or when they're at a price that's too good to pass up - can't get matching stuff that way!

Yes most of my appliances are the same colour. I always go for black / chrome. Even my plates bowls etc are black

That’s very coordinated indeed. And I guess it’s also easy to find replacements when necessary 😊

I'm more interested in quality. If I find a company that does a good quality kettle, toaster n microwave then happy to match but currently have different
