Maura Higgins: Toxic Shock Syndrome

In the News

Maura Higgins, a former love island contestant, shared that she had a tampon stuck inside her for 3 months!! It's impossible for a tampon to get lost in your body and although very rare, it can get stuck. Poor Maura felt so unwell as she developed toxic shock syndrome 🥺

I personally never use tampons not because I'm afraid it will ever get stuck but because back in school they did a talk about the possible risk of contracting TSS and I've always been anxious about it. Of course it doesn't mean the tampon itself causes TSS! It's only if you leave it in for too long then there is that very small risk.

Ladies have you ever experienced the same or a similar situation?

I once did get a period cup stuck inside me .. it just didn't want to come out and I believe it was because the stem was quite short compared to other menstrual cups. But don't worry guys after trying to relax I did manage to get it phew!

Nope never had a issue with tampons and after reading this story if it's been there for 3 months why not go get it taken out sooner what because she's embarrassed? I've never heard anything so stupid it says in the box what can happen

Leannexxx yes she didn't explain the ins and outs .. was she embarrassed by it all? Or did she forget ? I'm glad she shared her story tho as some girls simply don't know

Nadiaparveen sorry but like I said it says in the paper and on the box most girls read it because they don't know how to use tampons and I don't care what anyone says you can feel a tampon in yourself it's not uncomfortable but you know it's there

It's good that she is sharing her experience, especially as it can cause the toxic shock syndrome, the more people are aware the better. I use the moon cup too, not had any issues x
