What do you think of this?

Mine was done in February but the other day I did wonder about my wasted car insurance as my car will now be off the road for months, as will thousands of others.

Insurer's generally charge a penalty payment if you cancel insurance early, so probably not worth doing especially as your not certain for how long at this stage, and at least if you keep your insurance on the car it is still covered for theft, damage etc even if it's not being used.

Mango4 If you're confident it's not going to be used and is safe for the next few months, a penalty payment will be less than the insurance would cost though.

Thanks for sharing Mango4 - I've been checking daily, for a couple of weeks, for anything solid on this problem. Mine's due in the first week of April but would have got it done early if possible. This is such a huge relief.

When I become desperate for things to do I will go outside and clean the car, inside and out, and start the engine for a while. I think Mango4 is right about insurance as knowing me I will have a senior moment and bash into the kitchen wall or reverse into the road, the latter the better option as hopefully the road will be deserted!I

Lynibis 😂 The car got washed yesterday - I'd heard that some garages would collect, test and return so thought it was a good idea to give it a bit of a valet. I'm grateful that it's been extended but don't want it standing idle for the duration, would prefer to keep it running or disconnect the battery.

Read the advice on how to keep your car safe though. I'll happily try to help if anybody has any questions.

Thanks Dennab luckily I have a silly little Up! which I don't think many folk will want to steal. But I love it and it is right under my kitchen window.

Lynibis It's your car. There's nothing silly about that. If you do decide to cancel the insurance and want a bit of extra security, wheel clamps are not particularly expensive. I mean the devices that fit over your car's wheels, not the steering wheel. People use them on caravans.

wow fantastic, mine is due mid April and I was getting worried about this.

I get mine service at the same time.

Not driving much for the last few months but this is such a relief.

Thanks so so much for sharing.

I work in a main dealer and we are currently off but due to go back on the 14th April, so I guess people will still have MOTs and other repair work done when we are back open

they ought to do something about parking fines as well, particularly those in the residential areas. I have seen traffic wardens on their rounds
