Would You Name Your Child after a Fruit ?

Ask a Question

The mother of this child named her Avacuddo, a slant on her favourite fruit , Avocado

This was announced by the grandmother on Facebook

People are saying this will lead to bullying at school and adverse comments during her life

I have seen worse names given to kids

What do you think of the name and would it worry you ?

My daughter in law is a teacher and can name all her class. Not one is a traditional British name but they all sound lovely names from a variety of ethnicities.

Pjran There are some beautiful new names now for kids, rather than bringing ridicule it can enhance their personalities

Why not... you could call a girl Sharon after a Sharon Fruit (a variety of persimmon) or William after a Williams Pear or possibly Charles after a Charles Eyre apple, etc.

Each to their own or should I say Peach to their own. It’s your child and you should be free to name it what you want but think of the child having to carry the name through childhood.

I'm ever the traditionalist on this one.I love good solid old fashioned names like Jack,John,Joan and Jessie.

I registered twins once, mother called them Dolce and Gabbana, she said it just came to her whilst being wheeled to the delivery room. Can't remember any fruits though.

I like more uncommon names, I'd probably rather my child named after a fruit than alcohol.

We should be able to call our children whatever name we like, within reason. Those that say children will get bullied for their names, should teach their own children not to bully others. If more people named their children after fruits it would be normal and then people couldn't pick of them for being different. I mean I wouldn't choose to call my child melon as some people use that as a jokey insult. But sadly Karen is now used as an insult, so no way of getting around any name. You'll also find a lot of names may rhyme with insults or could be turned into one or shortened versions of their names could be. My sister loved the name Ruby and really wanted her first child to be called Ruby but then she said nope... Rubes pubes... really!! I would have never even thought of that. She has a daughter, her name is not Ruby though.

We had a Cherry is our class and I've heard and seen it quite a bit.

I might call an animal Mango, Kiwi or Peach so I wouldn't completely rule it out for a human name either.

telmel Coconut would be a cute nickname, in this case they can call their child Coco. Although I cringe when I hear Coco, for anyone or any creature. I just hear 'Coco the clown' when someone says Coco, which I always heard people refer to when someone had too much make-up on.

Coco seems to be a popular name for dog though, especially with Brown Cockapoos.

Not a name I would choose, but then others don't like older men's names for cats like Winston, Walter, Clive or Charles, but it wouldn't stop me giving those names to a cat 😁

I suppose we are lucky in the UK L , some countries regulate you naming your child

I was surprised to read Denmark is one of the strictest

Here is a link to some others

Denmark

[2] Denmark is known for having one of the strictest laws when it comes to naming children. [3] Danish parents must choose their child's name from a list of approximately 7,000 preapproved names or seek approval from both the government and their local church.11 Sept 2018

telmel I never realised any country had laws on children's name. I'm incredibly surprised Denmark is one of them. I would not of been impressed if someone had told me to choose a name from a list.

telmel - Famous parents have been doing this for years and recently "reality stars" for attention seeking.

I personally don't think any school will turn a blind eye to bully because of a child's unusual name.

I think it depends on the fruit as cherry is a lovely name. Also if your a celebrity or have lots of money it doesn’t really matter on the name as people with be nice because who your parent are and you have money.
