Netflix Gets Rid of Its 30-Day Free Trials

Ask a Question

Netflix has got rid of the 30-day free trial period it offers to new customers.

What do you think about Netflix not offering the 30 day free trial?

Probably makes sense as people probably keep starting new accounts to get a free month's viewing. I've never actually tried netflix myself and looks like now I never will. I've done other subscription services like Sky though and they were never good value as I'm pretty fussy what I watch and mainly enjoy scifi so it always felt like I was wasting money. I don't even have a TV license instead I just watch a bit of ITV player catchup stuff and youtube videos plus other content like dvds, blurays etc. Annoyingly my TV remote has a huge netflix button on it which I wish wasn't there.

Not a fan of Netflixs I just watch normal TV. Not sure how people can keep starting new accounts with their email address.

Suniverse Easy to have multiple email accounts however the real restriction might be the number of payment cards. I.e. you'd need a unique payment card for each trial.

BonzoBanana Netflix's should only allow one account per email with a phone number included which would reduce the amount of people making multiple accounts for free trials

BonzoBanana Apparently it was only email address that needed to be different, I was reading elsewhere that many were using Gmail email and just inserting a character (not allowed in email addresses so ignored) which fooled the detection equipment and many people could get hundreds (if not thousands) of accounts from the same address. This apparently only worked with Gmail not other email providers.

Can understand why they've done it. I do think free trials help because if you're on the fence about subscribing you can see what it's like but I expect they get a lot of people just making multiple accounts with different email addresses

Netflix have also increased their prices, which I imagine is down to their popularity, but if they don’t stay reasonably affordable, people will go elsewhere

It’s more than likely because people just keep setting up a new account and taking advantage of the 30 day free trial so you can understand why they have done it.
