New Phones

Ask a Question

do you have a contract phone just to get a better iphone deal etc or are you not bothered about having the latest one?

Still use my 2016 phone but the other day it started acting by not making any noise when I was receiving phone calls. So, I looked up online and all I had to do was remove the battery, re-insert, boot it up and it actually worked.

I only use the phone for phone calls, browse the web and listen to radio so I don't see any point buying another one. Besides, I have more to use.

I'd rather buy the phone out right and have pay as you go. There's too many people getting credit and then losing their job.

You have a point. People tend to apply for a credit card(s) and then they can't pay it back or late, with fees

I personally use aqua Card + PayPal MasterCard (you have to load money into it) which both offer cashback (0.5%) and keep it always up to date.

I checked out Tandum but they charge fees on transactions via TransferWise, for example, whereas PayPal MasterCard doesn't.

Rockman it is good that you can get cash back, and have to load money on to it first.

I have a very good pay monthly price plan (sim only) so I only buy a phone when I feel the need for an upgrade (if stuff stops working for example) and buy it outright. I won't buy the likes of Samsung anymore at their prices, I go for the top spec mid range phones.

I've never had the latest greatest phone and when I look at people who have bought such phones I can see only marginally benefit over my budget to lower mid-range phone so don't see the point in spending 100s extra on such a phone. I only use pay as you go and the phones I buy often keep a fair percentage of their value when sold. So doubt if I spend any more than £40 on phone and call credit per year allowing for the resale value of the old phone. I.e. bought a phone for £55 sold same phone for £35 but bought new phone for £45 and used £15 of credit over the year using wifi connections when possible to avoid data charges. Main uses of phone is music, videos, camera both stills and video, games, apps, gps/sat-nav and looking at emails and only occasional calls and texts. So the normal main use of the phone is only a secondary use for me.

I buy phones outright so I don't get stuck in a rip-off contracts that charges silly amounts each month for a 2 to 3 year period. They’re not worth it. And I don’t need the latest phone every year - every few years is fine

I dont mind paying more for a good phone, but only on the assumption that it will last me a few years, so I dont need to upgrade every year. But I would never do it via a contract - did it once years ago and you pay more in the long run
