No Heating or Hot Water.

Other

Not sure if it was something to do with the storm but went to bed with both ok and this morning nothing.

Have texted my plumber to ask him to ring first thing tomorrow (I don't want to spoil his Sunday) and was hoping he would just text ok or something. Don't know whether to try someone else or see if he rings.

What do you think of this?

Do you have a combi boiler or header tank? Presume you have checked your pilot light to make sure it wasn't blown out.

It is a boiler on kitchen wall and yes the pilot has gone out. It should be a very simple matter to reset (it's not ancient) but it just will not have it and the blue fault light is flashing.I

I spent ages on the phone with my son going through the manual but no luck. Just hope my plumber rings tomorrow lol.

Lynibis have you tried YouTube? I've managed to fix things by watching things on there before. I know you can probably get by for a day, but may just be a simple fix

Dilligaf good suggestion and my son did that prior to ringing me back, that is why I think it is more than a simple reset. I would not risk taking it apart or touching anything apart from the accessible knobs and buttons. I have an electric fire and also a grate for a real fire. I will just have to boil kettles for a wash lol!

Lynibis wouldn't suggest you did take it apart. As long as you have heating and water that's the main thing. Fingers crossed your plumber can see you tomorrow, if not there's always homecare, I've called them before and they came out within an hour, repaired the issue and at a reasonable price

Think I got the name wrong, it's Homeserve, keep forgetting words lately. They cover all sorts of plumbing and home emergencies. I have outhouses that used to have a toilet in except it wasn't disconnected and one winter I had a water feature that I didn't want. They came out, fixed it and all was good, also meant I was covered for a year for anything else, luckily as my door lock failed on me, locking me out of my own house.

Hopefully you can get it sorted asap. I woke up to a load of messages this morning from friends and family as all the streets and houses around me have been terribly flooded during the night. Thankfully we are fine but there is a tremendous amount of damage in my community. Storm Dennis has a lot to answer for.

Yes, I am pretty sure Dennis had something to do with it, and believe it or not my ex husband's name lol.

I thank my lucky stars to have got off so lightly as I feel so bad for all the folk with ruined homes. I think we really need to think about building future homes raised up where possible.

Hope you have some electric fans and hot water bottles. Our boiler stopped a few days before Christmas and I contacted a local chap who gets rave reviews on our community Facebook. He came next day to get it going, it was on constantly then came back with the parts to permanently fix it. Check your community Facebook for plumbers.

Hope you are back to normal tomorrow. What a nightmare! It may be worth looking at Homeserve as Dilligaf suggested. We subscribe to them and it takes a lot of worry out of emergency incidents.

Hi angemski if my regular plumber doesn't get back to me by 8am I will do that, luckily I do not start work until 2.45 but I bet that will be the time someone can come!

Lynibis Remember to tell them not to send Drippy, Leaky, or Swampy. But Corgi’s OK.

Good luck😊

Hope you get it sorted out. My boiler went once and I had no hot water or heating. I had british gas homecare, paid Β£50 and they sent someone out. They were rather rude to me as because I was young he thought I was stupid. He fixed the problem then left. An hour later it wasn't working again. Phoned them again, told them they needed to send some else out and that I wasn't paying Β£50 charge again as their engineer hadn't fixed it, I also complained about the way he spoke to me (he was lucky my husband wasn't there!). They sent someone else, who told me it needed a new part and the other guy should have noticed and that he would be back first thing in the morning to fix it. He was there at 8.30am and it was fixed in 15 minutes. He couldn't believe that the other engineer hadn't noticed it needed a new part or how rude he was and he put in a complaint about it! I was lucky it was fixed so quickly, but it was the middle of winter so it needed fixed quickly.

If your plumber hasn't got back to you then I agree about contacting homeserve.

My plumber was here first thing, he is a dear. Unfortunately he could not do the repair as it could be one of two parts, both around Β£200, and he doesn't want to get wrong one. He didn't charge me and we contacted Worcester Bosch who are coming tomorrow. Although it will be expensive he said the boiler is still otherwise in good nick so worth paying the bill than for a new boiler.

Horrified by your experience, it makes me so mad when people take advantage of women who are on their own. That is why my sons always insist on dealing with this sort of thing on my behalf. That said I know there are plenty of tradespeople who are sincere and honest, just like my plumber, he is worth his weight in gold and another time he wouldn't take any fee but had some tomato plants instead. Next time I saw him he said they had a bumper crop !

Lynibis glad it is getting sorted out. Your plumber certainly sounds like a good one! It is the only time I've experienced something like that. I put him straight, made sure he knew how rude and patronising he was and that just because I needed know how a boiler worked didn't make me an idiot! My husband was absolutely raging when I told him, as was my father. Told my mother in law and she said he wouldn't have tried it with her and she would have been on the phone complaining to the company whilst he was there! But I agree there are plenty of honest tradespeople and you certainly seem to have one. Ahh a good yielding tomato plant is worth a fortune, can't beat homegrown.
