Have You Rediscovered Any Old Favourites?
Ask a Question
Just got the Wii set up and playing Wii fit, it’s all coming back to me and have an age of 27 according to it. Not bad as I’m over 50. Have you rediscovered anything since lockdown that’s fun?
I had the same idea. Got the Wii Fit board out of the loft and set up the console. Unfortunately I discovered I'm going to need an HDMI adaptor so I can connect it to my Smart TV.
A few questions I might (only might) be able to help. Did it originally connect via a scart plug? And is the connecting cable permanently fixed to the unit? Also do you have anything that connects to your smart TV (recorder etc.) that has a scart socket on it as an input.
It's damned annoying that many smart TVs don't allow scart plugs to be used.
davidstockport Hi. Again not that technically minded. I think it goes something like this - Original cables (not permanently fixed) were composite. I connected these to my last TV via a Scart adapter. I have a PS4 and a Freesat box (used for recording) connected to HDMI inputs. I know there are also a few USB inputs. Cheers.
seasider71 I can't be 100% certain on this but if you read the reviews on this it looks as if one of these will solve the problem.https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/22013629009?iid=313048859493
Ignore the first one regarding SCARY end - I am reasonably certain they meant SCART and had bought for the wrong device.
Changing subject slightly but did you know any of the USB sockets on a smart TV can be used to charge mobile phones while the TV is on? If you have a mobile phone that can be charged via a computer's USB slot - the same cable can be used to charge your phone from the TV.
Tablet computers can also be charged that way.
davidstockport Hello again. Thanks for taking the trouble to help me. I also spent some time looking into it and you have confirmed what I was thinking. Looks like I need one of those little gizmos before I can hit the Wii Fit.
seasider71 It is possible that you might be able to get a cable to directly connect your wii (which I'm not familiar with) directly to your smart TV. Thereagain that converter could come in useful if you have other devices with scart plugs, such as a DVD player, to connect to your smart TV.
It looks as if SCART sockets and plugs are being phased out, but I never did like them very much anyway (always falling out).
eyeballkerry Although I am far from being an expert I do try to help wherever possible, things change so quickly it's difficult to keep up. Thanks for your comment it's good to see my efforts are appreciated, I recently got a Smart TV and will have problems should I want to watch DVDs on it. The easiest way (so far) is to connect my lap top to it and play the DVD on the lap top. So one of those gizmos could help me too.
Haven't things got complicated
davidstockport i did not know this,( about the USB slot)but it makes sense when you think about it..i bet my sons know & they havent bothered telling me...
Caz2 How strange - as I was replying to you on another thread (about URLs)- you were replying to me on this one. It only occurred to me yesterday that the USB slot on a Smart TV could be used as a phone charger. It's very useful when you're running out of plug points. It's also helps me find my mobile phone
If your sons were holding out on you about the USB slot - ask them what URL stands for (see if they know -before you tell them).
Someone gave me a Playstation 1 and a selection of games a few years ago. I like the fighting games such as Tekken 3 and Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style. Wouldn't mind getting Street Fighter II.
Tekken 3 is easily one of your best games on the original PlayStation - I spent so long playing that game!
