Olive Oil for the Ears
Ask a Question
Does anyone use olive oil to clean out their ears? I’ve not tried it, but someone who regularly does has said it can be very painful
I've used it, never found it painful. If you have a perforated ear drum I believe you shouldn't put anything in your ear. You can buy medical olive oil from the pharmacy this is probably better than the cooking type which may not be safe to put in your ears
I work in a pharmacy and people buy olive oil from us all the time for ears, it’s to break down the wax built up in your ears... our main piece of advice for anyone who has pain in their ears is to put nothing in them and see a GP who can have a look.
Thanks for the advice. I think she said that usually she puts the oils in when she feels like her hearing is muffled, but I told her that she may have an infection, so the last thing to do is put things down the ear...maybe she didn’t hear me
My dad did this for years and all it did was make him go deaf! Get a audiologist to clean it out if you have excess wax. Cost is a lot cheaper than you think.
The excess wax is designed to stop debris going into you ear
Yes, I’ve been informed by the experts to never put anything in your ears to remove wax, as it’ll sort itself out. However, having seen all the different contraptions created over the years to remove wax by the average Joe...lol
I’ve been told virgin olive oil is as good for your ears and cheaper. Your local pharmacy will most probably give you a pipet to drop the oil in.
As a child my parents used to put warm Olive Oil in our ears if we had ear ache. Can't remember whether it did any good or not.
My mum used to put two drops of olive oil in my ears when I had pain in my ears. I used to get a lot of ear infections as a child but olive oil helped me a lot. I would suggest you go to boots and get thing specific for cleaning your ears. My brother got a great ear cleaner from boots and they worked really well for him.
I have used this treatment before and would not say it is painful at all. It really easy to do too and really works so I would recommend.
Tried this but if I remember correctly, it didn't work for me so I just bought a specific product at the pharmacy and the wax naturally rolled out.
However, if it's really serious then you're better off visiting a GP, Hospital or Private Clinic.
