Am I the Only One Who is Early or on Time for Stuff These Days?

Ask a Question

I make plans with friends and they always turn up late and I'm always the first there. Even if im late I am still the first one. Like where is your common courtesy ? Where is the respect? Am I not worth you getting up half an hour earlier??? Does this happen to anyone? Are you one of these late people? One day your friend won't wait for you.

I am with you. My whole life I have been early, not even on time, at least 5 minutes early, sometimes 20. I don't think I have ever been late for anything because as you say it is common courtesy and I would feel so bad if I kept people waiting.

Apart from important stuff like doctor, job interview, the thing that winds me up most are people who are late for cinema/theatre and everyone is distracted from the presentation while they squeeze past to their seats.

Oh I hate latecomers to the cinema. Yesterday we went to the cinema and this whole family of five with 3 kids came waltzing in 10mins into the film with his torch from his phone on shining to look for seats, moving past everyone only to come to the realisation they were in the wrong screen!! Idiots. ( We were watching "On the basis of sex" which is about the gender rights movement - not exacly kid friendly!)

GlitchHunter Oh this is one place I make a point of being late as I find the adverts and trailers at the beginning annoying , thou I am normally sat down in my seat before they turn the lights out or the film actually starts.

Mango4 But these people came in after the film started. We were like 10mins in already! I get the missing ads and trailers part tho.

GlitchHunter the cinemas should not let them in after a film has started. Obviously no one can plan a call of nature so there will always be one or two nip out for a pee. Pelvic floors.

Pjran That's different if it's one or two people. Not whole family of 5 with a bloody torch. That's disrespectful.

I'm definitely the early one! Id rather be an hr early than 5 mins late. It's SO frustrating that people aren't the same and I have to hang around waiting for them!

Yeah and they think just saying sorry is enough. I feel like they should offer to pay for dinner or something to compensate.

I'm always one of the early ones. I've always considered it a mark of respect to be on time for a prearranged meeting, whether it is for official business or pleasure. I make allowances for a couple of friends who never get their act together but I own up to adding 10 minutes to the time they plan (using that as the designated time) because I don't want to be resentful by they time they show up. It's so much better to be waiting for 10 minutes rather than 20.

Oh I have tried to be later than my late friends and yet somehow, they still manage to be later. Can't win with those people. I guess you're right. Less waiting time haha

I‘m an early person as it makes me anxious to be late. However, a lot of family members and some friends are never punctual, so I just manage expectations as there’s no point trying to get them to change their habits, as it’s part of their nature...so either turn up later if you know they’re going to be late, or tell them a time that’s half an hour earlier than the real time (the latter works well, even though some still sonehow end up 40 mins late!)

Yeah I have tried that. But they seem to always be the ones that moan when you turn up a little bit later and for once in their life they have got there first!

I always try to be a little bit early , but more often than not find that wherever I go they are not ready for me or running late, which i find annoying . My dentist is a classic here always running 15-20 minutes late , but notices up in the waiting room saying they will cancel your appointment if you are more than 5 minutes late.

I really can't abide people being late and go to great lengths to make sure that I am not late. Luckily Mr T is the same way.

Yep. I have the same feeling, but what can you do if it happens over and over, never go out with them again? Then you'd never see them.

GlitchHunter It's the frustration that gets to you and you have to make a choice, are the people concerned of value to you as friends so that you can overlook it or is it so frustrating that it affects the friendship and you drift apart? It's always going to be a tricky one and each has to be assessed over time on it's individual merits. Personally I find it very hard to keep overlooking it as it makes me really anxious and I hate to feel stressed.

tumblespots Yes, once or twice okay, but every time? It makes me anxious too. Esp the waiting part. Looking like billy no mates for 20minutes is too long lol.

GlitchHunter I don't mind looking like 'Billy' so much as the way it makes me feel, I tend to panic and start worrying whether I had the right time/place. I know it's a bit irrational but I just want a stress free life these days and cut my cloth accordingly.

Just shows a lack of consideration and respect in my opinion. I can understand with traffic issues etc but that's it. At Christmas it was an (ex) friends birthday and I was treating them and their partner to a meal for said birthday on Boxing Day, they are notoriously late for everything, including important things but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and I got there early and 30 minutes after they were due to arrive I get a message saying "sorry we are running late" I let it go despite seething inside and when they finally arrived the excuse was they were playing computer games and got distracted. I was livid, hence why they're an ex friend. It's basic manners to be punctual

That's an automatic unfriend. At least come up with a better excuse. You deserve better than that. I'll be your friend and you can treat me to a meal on my birthday haha I won't be late!

That is despicable behaviour, a computer game taking precedence over a meal you are being treated to!
