What One Thing Do You Hope Will Never Change

Other

The world seems to be changing so fast . I remember when I was a child and the first computer games I played were just made up of sticks and dots . If you were playing football the footballer was a stick and the ball a dot. The same with golf, the golfer was the stick and the ball the dot (and so on with every sport that requires a ball , they all looked the same). Then there was the first mobile phone , the size of a house brick that only had enough battery power for a single call (that would cut out all the time and had terrible reception, in fact we would probably have been better sending smoke signals or shouting to the caller on other end of phone because they would have understood us better, lol). I’m sure most people using them phones would shout down them as if they thought they had to shout loud enough for their voice to travel!

Technology has changed many lives for the better but what is that one thing that you hope never changes? It doesn’t have to be technology related, anything that you love and hope never changes.

For instance I love the family Sunday dinners . A good time for my family to get together, eat a good meal and enjoy one another’s company. Forget all the stress from the past week.

Love a Sunday dinner with family, but some family members are lazy and want to go out for dinner (carvery) I've yet to find a decent place that does a good carvery, so for me I would never change Sunday dinner at Home

martinlufc5637 there’s something special about home cooked Sunday roast and no carvery will live up to your own families roast. Everyone has their own little ways of doing things so there is that unique taste that you’ll only get with a good home cooked roast , I know it’s a lot of hard work if you’re catering for a big family, but luckily my mum loves cooking. So she’s in her element when cooking a huge roast for the entire family. She sometimes even manages to put a few extra meals away for Monday to reheat (if one of the family will be working the following day and won’t have time to cook she’ll have enough food for the person who’s working , their spouse and children). But if we are extra lucky she might make bubble and squeak on the Monday . Mmmmm. You can’t get better than that. The only downside to the situation is my mum hasn’t got a sweet tooth so hates preparing desserts not that there’s any room for so much as a lollipop after she’s cooked a roast . lol

I would love it if my neighbours never move and stay as my neighbours forever. I have been so lucky where I live as the neighbours are kind , caring and considerate. I know not many people are as lucky to form such a good bond with the people they live next door to . I hope my street never changes and I wish that more people get to be as lucky as me where they live. It makes such a difference to have a friend you can rely on in your time of need, make you feel more safe and secure in your home. So friends please think about how happy I am because of the kindness of people who were once strangers to me. Take it on board and make your neighbours happy to have you living next door to them

brianmnicholson that’s true . It’s surprising how much a simple kind word can help someone who is not feeling good. Knowing you have loyal , trustworthy neighbours makes a huge difference when you leave your house . You can enjoy your time out instead of constantly worrying about your home if you know that your neighbours will look out for you

Nickyhaslam77 it used to be like this everywhere but people don't seem to have compassion for each other like we should. Like you said you can't tell what a person is going through and a simple act of kindness might have a huge impact on them

jam45 that's terrible, it must be awful having to live next door to people who you don't get along with, especially as it's a long term thing . I expect you've got used to it now but you shouldn't have had to get used to it. I'm very sorry you're going through that

brianmnicholson I have lovely neighbours but was concerned when they first moved in with 5 kids lol. But those kids are little angels, even now all under 11 but so polite, well turned out and well behaved. I bake them cakes and their mum always sends one of the 4 boys round with the clean plate/tin and they always chat and ask how I am. I hope they never change when they become teens. The whole family are a joy to have as neighbours.

Lynibis this reminds me of when my family moved house when I was about 11 years old . We moved to be closer to my grandparents. My mum said “I bet the neighbours are looking out , seeing a family with 5 children and thinking oh no!”. I didn’t understand at the time and luckily we got on with our new neighbours. My mum still lives in that house now and I have many happy memories there . We were always taught to respect our elders and use our manners etc . I’m glad your neighbours share those values and you have formed such a great bond .

Lynibis at least you was surprised in a nice way when you got to know them instead of being shocked with any anti social behaviour. I think some things we do take for granted . I can't imagine having to live next door to really annoying people. Some people suffer that everyday . I used to watch "nightmare neighbours" I think that's what it was called. The trouble some people were causing their neighbours was unbelievable.

brianmnicholson some human beings don't have the right to be called human. It seems their whole life is a mission to upset and be unpleasant to other people. I know the programme you mean but could never bring myself to watch it. My brain finds it hard to accept there are such wicked people in the world, especially those who are world leaders.

KAW18 I’m not very good at art but it’s true when you do create something you are proud off it is a great feeling. Also art is a very good way to express yourself and good way of dealing with stress

I love a sunday roast, best meal of the week. The one thing I notice which I wish hadn't changed is how we have moved to a throwaway culture. People just expect to keep changing stuff all the time and many products are designed to be short life. It feels like the reality is we were much more environmentally friendly in the past despite not realising this was a future problem and now that we know there is a problem we are doing everything to make the situation worse.

BonzoBanana true i sometimes laugh when I see “new improved formula , best ever “ labelled one a product. I then think wasn’t it labelled as “best ever” before so why did it need to be improved, lol . Like the saying goes “if it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it!”. Lol

Tastes change and new food fads come and go and I love trying new things, but nothing beats the good old cheese sandwich. Because we had school dinners tea was often just cheese sandwiches. Its one of the very few things that I remember enjoying from childhood. My wife who is an amazing cook never quite understands how much pleasure I can get from the humble cheese sandwich when there are so many other options to choose from, but left to my own devices - the sandwich often wins

I hope my sons excitement at the little things in life never changes. He gets excited by small things, like playing in the garden and I hope his zest for life doesn't dwindle.

Nickyhaslam77 we were visiting our friend and we took him on his first train ride and first ride on the subway. He was so excited and thought it was just magical. Can't remember the last time I was excited to get on a train. The joy on his face during the whole journey was amazing.
