Orange peels have health benefits for the Heart, does it appeal ?

In the News

Or a peel ?

Most of us eat fruit , like apples , oranges , bananas etc , but we always tend to throw the rind away , especially with oranges

This is because the rind is so bitter, we just want to eat the sweeter inside

With bananas its the same , we discard the skin and just eat the inner

But we are all missing out on on a big positive , the peel contains a bioactive compound, called feruloylputrescine (FP), that could benefit heart health as well as providing more essential vitamins found mainly in orange peel

So monkeys have more common sense than we do, they prefer to eat the rind of bananas and oranges etc

I have already seen recipes using banana skins , maybe we should find some using orange peel

I have used both orange and lemon zest from the peel to make homemade limoncello and more recently orangecello , so i may be getting the health benefits in an unhealthy way

I always wash my orange peel then eat some over 2days as it keeps my sugar levels in control I learnt this years ago from working in health care orange peel is full of vitamin s and banana skins are great for putting on your feet holding it in place with a old pair of socks as it gets rid of hard skin and vitamins from the banana go inside your body I would recommend people to try this great eating orange peel for people who have type 1 or 2 sugar diabetes it will help you

jdible I have never heard of this before. Its years since I have eaten orange. I prefer drinking the multi pack orange juice knowing I don't have to store it in the fridge once opened unlike the 1Litre pack. I will give this a go when oranges are available on special offer.

Well, I do use the lemon peel in my lemon cakes and candied peel is used in cooking too but banana skins - I really don't fancy them!

tumblespots We need to look to the animal world T , they seem to know where the goodness lies

We as humans tend to waste so much and are throwing the real goodness away

They put orange and other peels in a lot of Panatone, which I then find myself trying to remove as politely as possible or if there are Nonna's present without being seen at all lol

EmmaWright762 I am not sure E, i have had a chocolate one at christmas once but i don't remember the ganache, but it was delicious , i am a sucker though for a dessert dripping in chocolate , i often thought about getting a chocolate fountain to dip strawberries in for example
