Paying for Social Media and Emails

Other

perhaps if the companies were to start to charge for people to use social media and emails, it could lessen the problems people have with spamming and trolling? I mean there will always be those kind of issues, but perhaps it makes them less readily available for people to abuse - I mean fraud can be someone's full-time job, so in that instance they will still occur, but things like trolling and making multiple accounts to hassle people may be something that occurs less frequently?

What do you think of this?

That will then become something affordable only for those who are well off or rich. Those of us who would not dream of abusing and trolling online would be the ones to suffer. I rely on the internet for communicating with family, banking, competitions, reading the news etc. I would hate to have to think about the cost every time I log on, it is bad enough trying not to have my heating on too much.

I know what you mean, but I'd like to think that the well-off/rich are less likely to be logged in online trolling people, as they are busy hounding people in person to make more money! I'm thinking in terms of people who perhaps have too much time on their hands, and want to cause mischief, which is easily done online as it's free. And I know that there are more contractual safeguards in place when you have to pay for a service, and the fact that you will have to link a genuine bank account to a service makes it more traceable - I know it sounds all very big brother-esqu, but that is indeed what the word has come to. When you read about kids harming themselves after seeing what is readily available online, it does make you think that not enough is being done

hspexy yes, I can definitely see both sides. They really do need to get their heads together and have certain words that are picked up etc. Twice i have written very innocent words on here that have been censored, one of them a three letter word for a cigarette beginning with F so it can be done. Also a name and shame list, 3 strikes and you are on it. I am sure fb can afford to delete offenders accounts then maybe others will get message. Not sure we can ever stop it though, just like we will never stop crime.

Lynibis oh no, sorry to hear about that. Yes, there is also the case where people are over sensitive these days - had a workman say 'be careful love, it's slippery' on the street today, and I never take offence to it - but I know a lot of people who would, and it's sad. At the end of the day, every one has their own dialect and idiosyncratic language habits, but now it is very much dot say anything in case someone somewhere might not like it!
