Penny for a Guy

I have not seen any children doing penny for a Guy for about 30 years ! Is it still around where you live ???
Come to think of it no. I remember one in a broadway where I live about ten years ago and they were charging £1! Little blighters 
probably 50 quid now
I've never done it personally I seen people taking broken up wood to field the other day so they might stick a guy on it
We always used to do Penny for the Guy in the 70s. It used to take us ages to make one and we used to take it around the houses in a wheelbarrow.
Things were different then. We were allowed out on our own at a young age.
It's a shame how things have changed.
Wheelbarrow ! You were posh . We used to make a trolley from an old discarded pram and a few bits of wood nailed together . Halcyon days .
I haven't seen this for years, I think people are too frighten to let their kids do this anymore, as When you think back anything could have happened, who one really know where we were
Not for years , used to do it as kids , trouble is with inflation it would be £1 for the Guy these days .
Also in those days we used to actually "make" a guy and trolley and wheel it round the streets . These days the kids would have to get their parents to buy a "Guy" costume from the supermarket - and they wouldn't have a clue how to make their own trolley / kart .
How times have changed ! Not for the better in my opinion ?
I remember seeing some lads doing it in Leeds a few years back. They hadn't made the Guy but just got a kid in a Poundland mask and a hoody - a very poor effort.
Most children today wouldn't even know what a guy was. I think Halloween has taken over as the main event at this time of year. 
Never a truer word. Kids wouldn't even know why they were doing it. When I did it as a kid we had all been taught about Guy Fawkes and gunpowder, treason and plot. But why am I not surprised, none of them have a clue as to why we celebrate Easter, Halloween or Christmas, let alone May day or Mothering Sunday.
It's sad that this tradition has now been overtaken by trick or treat begging. On the other hand we used to fill the "guy" with bangers so he made a racket as he burned. Maybe not that safe!
But penny for the guy was also begging and I don't believe kids should be encouraged to do either. People may think begging for sweets is ok but not for their teeth or bodies!
The last time I saw penny for a guy was when I was on holiday up north around 10 years ago. They don't do penny for a guy where I live anymore but a couple of years ago they set fire to a massive hay man
