Should People Be Fined for Littering?

Absolutely yes. No question about it at all.

I was taught from a very young age that when l was not at home and l unwrapped a sweet the wrapper was put in the pocket of my dress, jacket, jeans etc, I still do this now and have taught my kids and grandkids too

I wouldn’t like to get anyone in trouble but if councils are asking for footage it might make people think twice.

I'm not sure the council can ask motorists to hand over their dashcam footage, however if you are caught littering there should be a hefty fine.

Yes 100% I hate seeing rubbish scattered around our roadsides. However the council doesn’t help either as our flimsy recycling bags often flyaway during high winds as they don’t allow anyone to put wheelie bins out anymore!

I have never understood why people just drop rubbish everywhere.It's so easy to either throw it away or keep it about you until you find a bin somewhere.It's just slovenly.

Yup they should be. Its disgusting and lazy. It's not hard to take it home snd put in the bin.

Dropping rubbish is wrong, not a great fan of expecting the general public to supply evidence thou whichever way. Councils should provide more bins and especially in car parks and public areas , I think it would be less of a problem then.

more bins would be useful for those of us that do want to dispose of rubbish correctly, but you often see people littering right next to bins - some people just dont care sadly.

I think each case should be considered on the situation and litter picking duties be given as an option rather than paying a fine. It would certainly bring home the problems littering can cause to the offender. I do feel though that many Councils have gone above and beyond finding ways to increase their revenue by fining not only for litter picking but just about anything they can.

This is like shoplifting, you can probably talk to them, but you can't force them to do the right thing because the law is on their side.

I remember a man who defended his home from a home invader and who got arrested? He did. That was years ago, but clearly it's gotten much worse.
