People Are Using Cooking Oil When They Sun Bathing to Get a Tan

In the News

The 1970's trend of using of cooking oil as sun cream is making modern day come back according to a new survey. More then fifth of brittions are now turning to their kitchen cupboard in a misguided attempt to get the perfect summer tan. This is not good for you our your skin. They will pay for it later on in life. They Must fry out when they are sun bathing. And after there skin must be very very sore and red. Not for me. I will stick with high factor sun cream. What do you make of it all. Image

Not cooking oil but about 10 years ago me and a friend went to the motocross to watch her brother race, it was a red hot day and we decided to plaster our legs in baby oil. 😐

The paramedic that was near by (just incase of any accidents etc) looked over at us and started shaking his head and said "you'll regret that"

We were like nooo we won't, we'll be fine..

Yep, we regretted it... The day after our legs were red raw and we were walking like penguins.. 😂😂

Never again!!

SarahHorsfield yep, the baby oil trend was pretty popular around my area back then 🙈 😂

I was thinking that the cooking oil would smell like you've just finished work in a chip shop or something haha! At least baby oil smells a little nicer. 😂

But I agree, there's loads of risks when it comes to putting stuff on your skin when you're intentionally trying to burn.. stupid people do stupid things, including me 10 years ago lmao. I'm a lot more wiser now though...... I think. 😂

An 'Aunt' of mine used olive oil on her skin every day almost her whole life and never regretted it. She always had a great tan and soft skin.

It seems to me that people must be pretty silly to do this. You roast food with oil so surely it stands to reason we will roast in hot sun, and burn, as we are meat!

I remember being in Tenerife years ago and there was this couple using Nivea as sun cream. Not Nivea sun tan lotions, actual thick Nivea cream.

They'd seen that Nivea made sun cream and wouldn't hear that the original cream wasn't the same thing. Needless to say they both got really burned and ended up in hospital. The husband was in for about 4 days as he had really bad blisters. Anyhow, the day he returned to the hotel, what did he do ... back out in the sun slathered with bloody Nivea cream again! The holiday rep tried to talk to him but again he wasn't having anything of it. There's just no helping people who are so dumb.

I love a good tan, but theres nothing worse than trying to burn yourself to get there - the damage you do long term is irreversible
