People Should Wear Masks 'Indefinitely' - Rant

Ask a Question

I have Just Read this headline People should wear masks 'indefinitely' even when rules ease, scientist says..

I find it really hard to breath in a mask as I have asthma and after about 20 minutes I start to panic. I know people say if you are exempt you don't have to wear them but people glare at you and I don't want to tell people my medical history plus a lot of people think you are just making it up!

How do you feel about this announcement ?

Restrictions are currently set to end on July 19th in England, so people can choose not to wear a mask. However, I assume many shops, restaurants, cinemas, pubs and other businesses will still require their staff and customers to keep wearing a mask, as the risk still exists. I didn't start wearing a mask until I was required to, but I'm used to and don't really mind wearing it now. Aside from going to the cinema I don't usually need to wear it for longer than 10-15 minutes at a time.

I am beginning to wonder what was the point of being double jabbed. I too hate wearing a mask.

We have talk of kids (who are least affected) having to go home and isolate if one has covid missing yet more school. By now their parents and older relatives must be jabbed so who is being protected. About 45 million peeps jabbed but our whole population is supposedly only just over 60 million so how is it spreading so much? I keep feeling that we are not being told everything. Kids sent home from school but sports events and politicians meeting up. I give up I have lost the plot because I really can't understand why I can't just live after two jabs. Now they're saying a third come September!

I share you feelings, I've had two jabs hoping this would lead to more freedom, but with Covid infections raising, I am still shielding and rarely even go out!

I would like to think that we could get rid of the masks but remember to keep up with the hand washing and alcohol gel

As infection rates are still rising, despite so many being fully vaccinated, it is obvious that the virus is still virulent. It will become a personal choice shortly, I think. How do we think this virus is continuing to thrive? I think I will keep my mask on in public for a while longer as an extra protection.

I'm happy to continue wearing a mask while the virus is still around. It isn't as prevalent but certainly isn't gone so am happy to wear masks in shops, public places etc while it's needed.

You don't have to wear one mate, you are exempt and it's nobodys place to ask why, if you can't then don't, especially if it makes you worse or poorly

You will be exempt from wearing a mask with asthma. Buy a big badge saying so.

I don’t know how to feel about wearing them from now on. But I’m sure we will for a couple more years.

I think I will have to get used to them, if I want to travel on public transport, just need to ensure I have my inhaler to hand at all times 🙂

beccatavender people wear these at work all the time and it’s mind over matter. I don’t need to wear one. But I still do. I’ve used them in the past working on a car or sanding in the house.

Not the most comfy things to use.

I’ve actually met people who have said they’re happy to continue wearing masks, particularly during the winter months - they’ve said they usually get colds, but didn’t the past year as they attribute it to the mask wearing. I’m happy to stop, but in the colder days, it definitely kept me warmer

I totally agree! the NHS must still be reeling from the earlier overload..... how the heck are cancer patients and others going to get the life saving treatment they need if we all go crazy and party spreading unnecessary risks of COVID (and long Covid). It's all very well clapping .... we need to do more than that and being sensible and NOT banging on about 'personal freedoms' would surely be a good start!

I think that we should all continue to wear masks if we are able ....I don't like it but it's the right thing to do for myself and for others HOWEVER ..... for people in your situation then obviously it should not be mandatory! I have made 3 different styles and also tried the standard concertina like ones ... my own made ones are far easier for breathing as they have a space in front of the nose/mouth. If the rest of us mask up then there is less risk for those who have asthma, breathing issues etc ... last week there was an autistic lad (teenaged) ...and his dad on the bus .... the lad wasn't masked and you would not expect him to be ...his dad was great at trying to seat him where he wasn't going to sneeze or shout over folk. I don't understand people being nasty when they don't know the full facts. I guess you have tried wearing an exemption lanyard, or a transparent visor?

It will be free choice and not an enforced rule so you will be able to relax. Personally, I've gotten used to the mask, with internal plastic support, and have no problem with it. I will probably continue to wear it for quite a while after the latest changes.

Been to the theatre and have to say that wearing a mask even though in seating bubbles really sucks the enjoyment out of it. Masks are great on a cold windswept day on the seafront - just like a scarf- but just like a scarf at 20c in a warm theatre for two hours - not enjoyable.

You dont have to tell people your medical history. If you get asked tell them that unless they're your personal doctor which they are not then its none of their concern. If they have an issue with it then they can jog on.

I'm happy to continue wearing masks when in shops etc. It protects others rather than myself but I'd rather not be responsible for the indirect death of someone. I've seen news reports of people attacking staff because the staff have insisted on face masks being worn and its hard to accept how moronic some people are. Face masks protect others not yourself so if you are vulnerable you need to avoid people not wearing masks or wear a very high quality medical grade face mask which I think from memory is N95. It really restricts your breathing as it really restricts particles getting through and would prevent covid getting to you but remember the virus can rest on your skin or get absorbed through your eyes etc. Ultimately if someone refuses to wear a mask they are basically allowing others to die but those same people will be protected by those who wear face masks because those people will not be able to shed the virus if they cough or sneeze etc.

The science is very simple and it only takes a tiny amount of compassion for other people to understand the importance of wearing a face mask.

I've seen so many comments on different forums from people that seem to get their science from facebook conspiracy theorists and these people don't seem to be rational at all, they cannot logically process the situation because of a poor attitude or simple stupidity.

We have lost about 150,000 people from Covid in the UK. It's a horrific statistic and many people have ongoing long covid which is effecting their daily lives. Long covid is a broad term for a range of symptoms generated by the covid virus or the damage caused to the body of the original infection. It is estimated over 2 million people have or had long covid. Long covid may have permanently reduced their life expectancy by damaging organs etc.
