Should I Perm My Hair?

Ask a Question

I'm thinking of perming my hair. Can anyone who has done it please give me advice on best treatment types and if you would recommend based on your experience. Or does anyone know any alternative options for de-frizzing hair?

thank you 😀

I stay in Scotland but most hairdressers will do it ,it lasts about 6 months as long as you take care of your hair like use the proper shampoo and conditioner sulfate free are the best it costs about £70 really depends where you go but I highly recommend it I have frizzy hair and mine is poker straight and looks so healthy

Have you ever considered hair extension? No hairdresser required. But if you do consider a perm a word of mouth hairdresser is a must.

I have the thickest frizziest hair you can imagine, even my hairdresser has never seen worse. I have finally found that Argan oil applied while still wet has done the trick, although I do have to reapply every couple of days.

If you can afford it (I no longer can) there is a treatment called Yuko which some salons have staff trained to do. It is like the opposite of a perm and makes hair sleek and straight and lasts for about a year. It can cost between £200 and £350 and takes several hours but results are astounding. I guess it is cheaper or same as going to a salon 6x a year.

Lynibis thank you for your reply, how long does Yuko last? because the price depends on how long it lasts for, perms can cost £100 but only last 3 months...😉

PRETTIEST mine used to last between 12 and 15 months but you would not need to see a hairdresser during that time.

Lynibis would this mean i wouldn’t have to straighten my curly hair so it would just dry straight after washing?

To Lynibis: I can't see myself spending that kind of money or spending that amount of time on my hair!

jam45 yes I agree it is expensive and I can no longer afford to do it, as I said it depends how much you would spend having your hair done each year. Sometimes it lasted 15 months and it was lovely having smooth sleek hair which only ever needed a quick brush through it, so it took no time at all for a whole year! Although Argan oil can be expensive it would last probably a year and it takes no time at all to put some in your palms and rub through hair, not sure how you could spend less time. You could ask family to buy Argan oil for birthday or Christmas.

PS I only saw your reply by chance so if you click 'reply' under a comment the person you are responding to will get a notification. Or use hashtag and username...i.e. Lynibis

i’ve been thinking about this for months! my hair is naturally wavy but annoying to manage so i want it to be treated to be dead straight. would a perm make curly hair so i never had to straighten it?

I permed my hair a few times years ago as I wanted proper curls not frizzy hair. It looks quite awful for a few days as the curls are way too tight. It dries out the hair a lot too. I wouldn't do it again. I use a curl defining cream now, which works quite well.
