How to Get Petroleum Jelly out of Hair?

Ask a Question

How do you get a petroleum jelly based product out of your hair?

I have used Kuza Hair Treatment not knowing what was in it and that it wouldnโ€™t wash out.

This is the culprit -

I have tried normal shampoo, baby powder, corn flour, and fairy liquid.

Any recommendations as my hair feels like it has glue in it trying to comb it and looks like I have tried to style my hair with Vaseline ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Thank you! I have tried the cornflour and washing up liquid and had no joy ๐Ÿ˜ž

I will have to see if there is any peanut butter in the cupboard for me to try!

Have you tried Baking soda: Mix one teaspoon of baking soda with a regular baby shampoo, then wash and rinse out. Repeat if necessary. Baby oil: Saturate the hair in baby oil, rub it through the hair completely and squeeze out as much as you can. Make sure to use warm water in the shampoo, since cold water congeals the Vaseline. Worked many years ago when toddler daughter got into baby box.

I have just found some baby oil in the cupboard and Iโ€™m going to try that, abit worried that it might make it more greasy! I will wait until my partner is in so he can help me make less mess! Thank you โ˜บ๏ธ

AliceBell64468 I googled How do you get Indian hemp out of hair? and got this ...

Heat up some olive oil (not HOT but warm) and then dip a comb into the olive oil, then slowly comb it through the hair. Let it sit for about fifteen minutes, then put shampoo on BEFORE you get it wet... lather up and rinse

Who would've thought that your Sunday afternoon could quickly change into a cookery session? I am ashamed to admit I had a little laugh although it would have been the same even if it was my own hair. ๐Ÿ˜† You really need something to cut through the grease like apple cider vinegar or a something that strips out product build-up. I have heard of washing up liquid being effective, probably because it has a grease cutting ingredient. (it is also kinder than most people think so don't be put off by it's purpose)

I know kinda scrapped the plans for going for a dog walk, sent the partner out to do that by himself lol! I did laugh to start with but now Iโ€™ve tried that many different things its more that Iโ€™m starting to cry! I have tried two lots of fairy and that hasnโ€™t worked. Iโ€™m about to try the baby oil see if that works. I also have some swarfega scrub soap which may be worth trying, I donโ€™t know, anything would be great really itโ€™s just not shifting.

lilyflower & angemski it has finally come out!! Iโ€™m so happy ๐Ÿ˜

I used half a bottle of baby oil on there soaking it and massaging it in, wrapped it in a towel and left for about 20-30 mins. I then used Tesco own brand apple washing up liquid tough on grease on the front lol, seeing as it tried fairy earlier.. and I put that straight on to the hair without wetting it first, rinsed that out. Then used the swarfega heavy duty scrub lol, rinsed and another lot of Tesco Apple liquid, rinsed and finished off with my rituals of Sakura shampoo! It has done the job so that is what you need if it ever happens to you!! ๐Ÿ˜‚ thanks for your advice x x

I am so pleased you've got a better result. Please remember you wouldn't treat a rug with the chemicals you have put on your head so play nicely with your follicles for the next 7 days. x

AliceBell64468 I've almost forgot this tip. I had to check with a stylist friend because this product used to be used for stripping out product build up but now it's promoted for itchy scalp. Get some Soap Spirit or Spirit Soap. It's reasonably priced for a large amount (around ยฃ7) and worth having a bottle in the cabinet for all those other little experiments......
