So, I am doing Christmas dinner, BUT what can I make for the children for starters... they won’t eat the classics like prawns, pate etc.... one of them is autistic and a really fussy eater..... can anyone think of something a little “fun” for starters for them?

This isn’t a debate about they should eat what they’re given and like it.... I just want nice ideas! Xxxxxxxx

What do you think of this?

Have you tried tater tots but with cauliflower? Finger sized food that can be cooked in the oven and can be made well ahead of time and chilled or frozen. I've found it really successful with children who don't want the norm. Tag me if it's something you would do and I will expand with recipe.

MandeeMayson as requested.

Cauliflower tater tots

1/2 cauli - grated or buy prepped cauli rice

1/4 onion - grated

1/4 cup of breadcrumbs

20g cheddar cheese - grated

1 large egg

salt/pepper/onion granules garlic granules optional

Mix ingredients and roll into finger sized portions (aim for 12) Cook 180 degrees for approx 20mins, turning half way through, or until golden. Serve with their fave sauce/ketchup presented in a way that will make them smile. Jenga tower, peacock fan....you know your children best and I bet you could come up with a funny creation.

MandeeMayson A 'nibble' plate, breadsticks with dairy lea/soft cheese/peanut butter, apple/grapes/raisins. It could all be put in a festive bowl or plastic plate with their name on 🙂

Keep it really simple like melon or grapes or M&S mini sausage rolls and the portions small, so they don't get full too soon!

What kind of food do they normally like? I would base it around something that is usually a favourite and maybe make it Christmas tree shaped or something similarly festive.

I go along with those who say melon but would make melon balls and give them a cocktail stick to spear them with (if old enough). This will not spoil their appetite before the main course.
