Points Removed for Duplicate Posts

Ask a Question

I know many people suffer with this issue. You earn your points, 😁then they get taken away ☹️This happens because someone done the deal before you but is not flagged up straight away. It seems a fault on the site which needs rectifying or we should keep our points until this bug🐛 is sorted out. Hopefully I can get other people’s opinions on this.

I totally agree with this! If a deal that you’ve posted has already been shared we should be able to share another in its place so you dont miss out on points.

summa68You can share another in its place. Actually, you can share many deals/competitions/freebies/voucher every day. You are not limited up to 3 deals only, the only limitation is the points system up to 3 posts of each category.

summa68 You have to do it on the same day I'm afraid, but it's better to ask them using the contact form.

It is annoying, I know, but it can't be helped if the poster changes the title words or the picture shared - the 'bots can't easily pick those nuances up. I've had them removed weeks later and it's because the original poster or the second poster had subtle differences in their post. It doesn't matter if you have more detail or gone to the trouble of adding much more info - the first post should stay. It is worth looking in the search box before you post so that you don't lose your points. Frustrating but fair.

Hey eyeballkerry 🙂

I appreciate this can be frustrating but unfortunately it isn't always possible to automatically detect a duplicate post at the time of sharing.

For example, say there was a competition that Argos were running on Twitter and they added a blog post about it on their website.

An LD member could understandably choose to share this in multiple ways:

  • They could link to the blog post on Argos' website
  • They could link to the Argos Twitter page
  • They could link directly to the Tweet that contains the competition

All of these would have different links - we try and detect a duplicate straight away (when you paste in the URL) and so if the URLs are different it can be rather tricky for us to tell it's a duplicate.

There are ways we continually try and improve this and add in other factors and try and overcome other website's quirks but sadly it isn't perfect.

Separately we are exploring the idea of potentially not removing points if a duplicate is removed after, say, 7 days to reduce some of this frustration 👍

I think that's why they have mentors for and a reporting system, otherwise none of that would be necessary. Even Facebook/Twitter/Instagram need teams analysing and users reporting posts, there is no perfect algorithm that will do everything automatically in a magical way.

Yes it’s annoying. Had something removed...after 26 days. There are parts of the site I avoid to save myself from such frustrations

Yeah but otherwise people would just keep posting deals for points all the time

Just feel complimented that someone also thought the deal was good .

I see so many "non deals " on this site that have obviously just been posted for the points and are certainly not deals .

The point of the site is to share great deals with fellow members , the points are really just a bonus .
