Practical or Indulgent Present from Your Partner?

Ask a Question

As an 18 year old I was gutted when my ex partner bought me a food processor for Christmas, I had been dreaming of flowers or jewellery or something romantic. My food processor has stood the test of time and is well used and over 35 years old now. As an older woman it feels like one of the best presents I ever received, lol. If your other half buys you a present do you prefer practical or romantic or are you like me now and just happy he remembers ๐Ÿ˜‚

What do you think of this?

I think it depends on your financial situation. If you can afford to buy things like household appliances at any old time then special occasions warrant special, romantic type gifts from your loved one, things you don't need but desire. However, if money is tight I would prefer to have a food processor for my birthday than not at all, a bunch of flowers wouldn't cut it!

I remember when my son was 21 and had moved into his first home I thought he would appreciate an expensive drill with all the bits etc. His face upon opening was a picture and we have laughed about it since. So, I can understand an 18 year old not wanting a food processor lol.

We don't buy each other presents. If we see something we like or need and its expensive we mention it to each other and say it's for our birthday or Christmas.

He surprises me with chocolate and flowers throughout the year.

As long as a bit of thoughtfulness has been put into a gift, thatโ€™s all I would want - I want my gifts to be memorable, not something just to add to the heap

I would love a spa day or holiday instead of food processor or flowers or jewelry.
