In Praise of the LD Team Even Though I Lost out .....

I had a chat topic disallowed for being too similar to a previous one. The previous post had been mine and the second question arose naturally from it. Despite the fact that the disallowed comment meaning I didn't get a response, I still think the team are really good because I received 2 prompt, really clear and friendly email explanations s to why I couldn't ask the second question. So often, admins don't read and comment let alone reply personally.... just a bot generated response etc. So, I just wanted to say thanks to the team for trying to make it all fair and for responding with patience and clarity.
I agree with you. We all have odd niggles but, as you say, queries are always dealt with promptly and explanations given.
Grannyclock I didn't expect a same day reply, let alone a 'personal' email one that actually addressed the question ...really appreciated it, despite the fact that I still couldn't see why I couldn't ask my question when, as 'Golf' keeps saying, other folk post ridiculous chats .... but I accept the decision and am going to ask on Gransnet instead, no problem.
I do agree with your comment , I think the majority of moderators do try to implement the site rules . Not always perfect but a "contact us " email appears to elicit a second look and an explanation or apology . It can't be an easy job , but we have to accept that the initial moderation is carried out by "bots" using keywords . And it is a far from perfect system .
The problem to me is the "reward culture" of the site . Any terrible deal , inane comment or chat post "earns " points . Lets face it most members are on here solely to earn points ? and have no interest in posting good deals - why bother making the effort to find a good deal when a lousy Amazon "click and paste" non deal earns 100 points ?
And don't get me started on "Chat " !!! Why is it even necessary to give points for a chat topic ? We like to chat , why be given points for it ? All it leads to is 2 "news " topics posted by the usual subjects each and every day - members reply (to get points ) and the OP ends up with bonus points for creating (often "bumping" ) their own Chat post !
A discussion on "Chat points " went quickly south earlier , and commenting was rightly halted after emmabeckz tried valiantly to keep it polite and "on topic" . But we do need that discussion ? And for the life of me I cannot understand why we need to be awarded points for chatting .
Golfforall BORDERJOE we are not bots believe me although I sometimes do have to turn up my smile - old Alan Partridge joke…
If you ever need help or advice (site related not does my bum look big on this…) give me a tag as I’m always lurking somewhere and will do my best to help. We pride ourself on having a good community feel and being reachable to our members
emmabeckz I , of course , know you are not . Also I know you could not possibly comment on the percentage of "Moderations " that are done by "Bots" or indeed on the LDHunters who post an identical deal 5 or 6 times every couple of days (Bras , muscle massagers etc come to mind ? ) and never answer a question on their deals ?
Nuff said , I'm sure most members are happy as long as they continue earning points
emmabeckz and Golfforall ...thanks for the replies .... to my mind it's just reinforced the community aspect ...tho as I've said before, I am one who likes the points and the rewards they bring.... and I do try not to abuse the points system.
To be fair I have often gone back to an old chat with an offshoot rather than start a new topic. There are far too many topics being added daily and I don't see why chats can't go off on a tangent if there is a link, however tenuous.
After all when chatting in person we don't stay on one subject throughout.
Lynibis that raised a smile here ... my family spend most of their time when chatting to me, with eyebrows raised and a bemused expression cos I go off at tangents all over the place! .....Post query solved ..... lol! P.S. I DO end up at the original point-eventually- and often friends FaceTime because they need a laugh and a cheer up - so it can't be all that bad!
I agree the team do a great job! I’ve not been here long and when I applied for my first Amazon reward the email got lost because of the way I’d signed up. I was really surprised that the founders monitor the chats and I got the issue sorted. So I’m very grateful
