Should Pubs and Bars Run Women Only Nights?

Ask a Question

Should pubs and bars run women only nights?

I think that would probably not be viable . But if people have to show and have photographed their identification on entry ( driving licence, covid jab cert, passport etc)

And are frisked for weapons ( including syringes) and there are plenty of cameras , and lids supplied for drinks, maybe vulnerable people can be protected from the most dangerous living creature on the planet, the predatory human male.

and of course they would have to pay for their own drinks.,,,, 🤣

Mayhem if it's from a safety aspect then that is basically saying women would only be safe or able to go out on the women's only nights. Would they want to stay in the rest of the nights?

Lynibis No but I think it gives the women who are very concerned about going out in normal circumstances...

Mayhem oh yes, I see. It would suit someone like me who goes out once in a blue moon but to be honest I like the company of men so wouldn't enjoy it being girls only. I think it is more important to not travel to and from the venue alone.

Mayhem that makes it even more sexist. Women aren't responsible for keeping themselves safe from men. Men are.

JoyceDivision you're right in that it SHOULD be men's responsibility, but unfortunately, there are so many occasions of women not being safe from men.

Mick82 not the same if it was the other way round though. A women only night as people have said above would be a safe space for women. Women are far more often victims of spiking etc than men. These articles show this although it's well known and unfortunately ripe. www.nationalworld.com/news/crime/spiking-offences-women-five-times-more-likely-to-be-spiked-than-men-in-england-and-wales-3465761

Mick82 yes, women are often targeted by men in clubs, not exclusively of course and of course not all men make women unsafe but it’s been studied and proven so not sexist

It’s putting a stereotype on male behaviour it would not be tolerated by any other group of people if it were to say white only is that not racist

Mick82 I am female, but I despise how society still views women as being the more fragile and gentler sex. That is most certainly not necessarily so.

In fact, I can honestly say that I have often felt more comfortable working in a room with a group of males than a group of females.

I reckon there are far more male victims out there than we realise. They just don't get reported as they are too afraid of not being taken seriously.

Women have fought for years to do away with men only establishments, so I don't think we should start to do the same. People can have a private function of they want to have a single sex event 🙂

No I don't think that they should. If it was the other way around then women wouldn't be happy. And I'm a woman. It would be very sexist to do that.

Is it for safety? Unfortunately it is a myth that the majority of women are sexually assulted or raped by strangers, the majority know there attacker. The figures change yearly obviously, but it has ranged from 80- 96% in recent years. Im not saying women shouldn't be vigilant when out, but its important people realise the majority aren't strangers.

But women are more likely to be victims of spiking in night clubs. You seem to be speaking in the general sense but specific to night clubs (which this is addressing). www.nationalworld.com/news/crime/spiking-offences-women-five-times-more-likely-to-be-spiked-than-men-in-england-and-wales-3465761

Surely they’d have to call them ‘those who identify as women’ nights opposed to right out women-only nights? 😜

The problem wouldn't be at the bar, it'd be when they're outdoors.

Going out at night in urban cities isn't exactly safe whether male or female.

But the spiking happens indoors, which is one of the biggest problems for women's safety on nights out. I understand that it can be seen as unsafe for males and females but females are much more likely to be spiked, which happens inside clubs and bars. www.nationalworld.com/news/crime/spiking-offences-women-five-times-more-likely-to-be-spiked-than-men-in-england-and-wales-3465761

It's not just women who are assaulted and attacked, men are too. There will be men who don't feel safe going out or walking home alone. So no I don't think 'women only nights' are right.

I would see if a demand existed, if it did then I would be ok with it. I have no problem with a mens night, live and let live.

The whole point of going to a bar is to meet new people as well as friends for a night out. I cannot see myself in an all female bar doing what?? I suggest those who want a same sex bar night out should stay at home instead.

Yes, pubs were traditionally working man's pubs and still in my town the majority of drinkers are men, as a singe woman I'd love to have even if it was one night a month a ladies night so I could go out make friends with other women and have a laugh, dance without guys trying to 'pull me' try and buy me a drink or dance with me.

There use to be men only allowed in the bar area of a social club, but women got it stopped as it was sexist. So no there shouldn’t be women only nights as it works both ways..

Bargainhead this is not exactly the same. These places were excluding women from a perspective of they didn’t have the same rights, and was no threat to men from women being there. This is as a safety measure because based on experiences women often do not feel safe and are not safe in spaces such as clubs. And statistics from research evidence this. Almost every female I know has been spiked. Only one male I know has been spiked. I know lots of females that have been sexually abused, raped, groped in clubs but my male friends have never experienced this.

lornaae must live in a bad area if almost every female you know has been spiked or over dramatising it for this thread. If you live your life thinking it really is that bad I wouldn’t leave the house..

clubs were not excluding women from the bar area as they didn’t have the same rights, it was because men could swear in the bar but not in the lounge where the women were. It was done out of respect..
