Recipe Suggestions for Leeks
Ask a Question
I grew leeks this year for the first time, and delighted that they were a success!
Going to harvest this weekend, so open to recipe suggestions, both for now and some that I will chop and freeze!
gerrykelly25 TheChimp yes, potato and leek soup with definitely be being made! I have potatoes and onions from the veg patch too, so will feel good using them all!
I enjoy chicken and leek pie, but love the sound of leek, cheddar and bacon!!
gerrykelly25 Oh no, don't do that.
I don't want to be responsible for ruining FG280's batch of soup.
I'd ask MrsChimp for advice, but she could burn a cup of tea.
As gerrykelly25 suggests, I'd go for a simple leek and potato soup.
All you need is onions, leeks, potatoes, stock and lots of seasoning. Add a bit of cream if you want to make it a bit richer.
I only know leek and potato soup was hubbys fave.I love leeks and grow em so I will be keenly watching this spot.

beccatavender this looks lovely! I love cheesey mustard sauces, so will definitely try this!!!
You could leave the leeks in the ground and dig them up as you need them through the Autumn and Winter.
Grannyclock one bolted, so I wasn't too sure if the rest would too? If not, this would definitely be a good idea. I left beetroot and carrot in last year and picked when needed
FG280 our first lot of leeks bolted too. I put some more in and they’ve hardly grown so I’m envious of you!
Grannyclock I left them in the ground as you suggested, and so far all good! Just using as I need. It is very autumnal today, so making a big pot of potato and leek soup to enjoy over the weekend!
FG280 I’m so glad. Enjoy that soup. We have had lots of courgettes and tomatoes to feed my soup obsession. Lots of apples too.
Grannyclock We have lots of tomatoes too. I was just saying how I wish it was a warmer climate and they ripened earlier, so that we could enjoy them more in the 'sunny' (well as sunny as it gets in NI)
If you like risotto, I found a lovely cheesy tomato recipe! https://www.hellofresh.co.uk/recipes/super-cheesy-ovenbaked-tomato-risotto-611a46b7d5123c3ac9695130 really easy and super tasty!
FG280 Thankyou! I love risotto but it’s a pain to make on top of the stove. I’ll try this very soon.
Grannyclock agreed. I have found a couple of easy but very tasty baked ones recently, including a beetroot and goats cheese one, which I used my home grown beetroot for. Was such a bright, vibrant and lovely colour too!
Grannyclock always!! All good intentions, then never get round to it. Then times like these, remember all the ones I want to try
My favourite meal with leeks is leek gratin, used to buy from Waitrose but they run out quick and recently have stopped all together so my daughter does a great homemade one now with cayenne pepper.
Love a good Leak and Potato soup. My mum does a mean soup and always badger her to make loads of home made soup for me this time of year.
I love to make my own soups, so for me it would have to be batch cook Leek and Potato soup, delicious.
This time of year we love a cauliflower cheese, we also fry onions and leeks to add to the dish before smothering with the cheese sauce (don't forget to add some stilton to your cheddar). Very tasty.
tumblespots oooh this sounds right up my street! I love cauliflower cheese, and love fried leeks!
