Removing Middle Seats on Planes to Encourage People to Fly

In the News

So this is one of EasyJet’s ideas to maintain social distancing after the lockdown is lifted

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52306868

personally, I’m not sure it will be a good idea to fly at all, let alone be the passenger stuck by the window

I will probably avoid flying anywhere for the rest of the year

when do you reckon you will be ready to fly again?

What do you think of this?

If you have to fly, the window seat is your best choice to reduce your chances of getting coronavirus. Less people pass near you.

True, but you’d have to pass other passengers if you need to go to the toilet, namely that dreadful moment when you need the person on the outside to get up for you...the entire idea of being trapped on a plane right now makes me shudder

Not sure about this, as you would get from people sneezing and coughing , you don’t get it through passing by , last year in the way back from Orlando to London I was seating by the window and all The way I was done then couple of hours before landing I felt so rough and was ill next few days , someone had flu and I must have got it somehow 😞 so I believe planes are the worst to get bugs 😞 although would love to fly soon as we are planning to move out of UK and this Covid 19 is holding us back at the moment , cannot sell our place or start moving process😞

Yeah, but the rows still so near to each other. There is no 2 meter distance there. Also if someone cough there...it is a closed place. And the airport is full with people to. It had not been closed properly and people are flying. Like the Romanians who came to pick fruit and vegetables flew in yesterday...

No...I am not ready to fly, but would love to get away from this place...Lock down feels infinity to me.

But I am also afraid after this ends, everyone will want to go somewhere and we will get an infection wave again.

It is Pandemic and companies should be supported by the government, but what happened? they give loans for some and they need to pay it back in the future. Some company will not survive that, so they want to get on and open again. They do not have choice.

Wonder if the other seats will be sold at higher prices to compensate . Also within the confined space of a plane with recirculated air is any distance really safe.

I believe the easyjet boss forecasts hard times ahead for selling flights in general, and expects not to be able to fill planes, so although I’m sure he wants to hike up prices, it’ll hurt him more if he can’t fill up the remaining seats

I wouldn't fancy it, the same air going round and round 😷 its bad enough anyway, can guarantee ill catch a cold when ever we fly so definitely wont be planning a trip in the next 12 months. I can only imagine the price of flights now too to make up for it!

I wouldn't have an issue flying again later in the year. This move would reduce the amount of passengers on each Easyjet flight, but they will still be in a fairly cramped narrow space for an extended period of time. Germs from a cough or on surfaces that have been touched can still easily spread. This move is more to ease passengers minds rather than reducing the risk of catching something.

You are still in a very confined space with people who may have infection of any kind that you don't want! You can't get away if you are stuck in a plane... 🐞
