Reservation Fee to Book Restaurant Tables

Ask a Question

In light of the fact that it's recently in the news that people are booking restaurant tables and not turning up , causing the restaurants to lose custom, do you think it would be a good idea to charge the person booking the table a reservation fee ,held but not charged and cancelled when the party turn up ?

I think it's a great idea.

Restaurants are under enough pressure as it is and they really don't need no-shows.

Yes Definitely. Pubs currently have a very limited capacity and it will stop people taking the mick

Yes, I fully agree. It isn’t fair to just not turn up. Restaurants and bars have had a hard twelve months and want to try and get trade going again. Also, there may be other people who wanted a reservation who had to be turned away.

I have no problem with them charging. I can understand why some people don’t turn up if it’s pouring down but it’s the risk you take for being sure of a table.

Sounds like a good idea to me. But should effectively be a deposit for your meal and count against the bill at the end.

Have to agree - if you put down a £5 deposit that comes off your meal or you forfit if you dont turn up. seems fair

I think that would be a fair thing to do. It's not right when people who have booked just don't show up, as the restaurants have likely turned other people away who would've actually gone and spent money there.

I think it's a fair idea .... I wouldn't dream of just not showing but so many folk would so really, restaurants need to do something in order to not lose genuine custom.

I think it's a good idea and will discourage people for turning up and it could be taken off the cost of the meal
