I don't believe I’ve watched any of his films, but I knew about them and that he was known as a Hollywood legend
Did you watch any of his films? What were your favourite ones?
I didn't know he'd died until I read this post . . . so very sad (I'm lost for words) . . . cut off in his prime! 
He was hardly in his prime! No i hadnt heard he had died,i didnt like his films much,though i remember my late mum watching them back in the day- i never heard of the stories about him,and my mum was usually full of the gossip about the stars! Maybe she felt it was too bad to discuss it.A lot of the 'big stars' of way back when seem to be coming to light in bad situations though,so it doesnt surprise me.
Caz2 I have never heard a single bad thing about Kirk Douglas and although, I believe, he has married twice, his second marriage was one of the longest lasting in Hollywood. He was amazing in Spartacus but acting was very different back in the day.
I have read his book the Ragman's Son and he had a very tough start in life, his parents were Russian immigrants to America. Obviously I will have to review my opinion of the man if all the stories I am reading on here turn out to be true.

Rockman At the time that his parents emigrated to the USA "Belarus" was part of the Russian Empire, so Lynibis was not incorrect when describing them as Russian immigrants:
Wikipedia...."His parents were Jewish immigrants from Chavusy, Mogilev Region, in the Russian Empire (present-day Belarus)".
And you were not incorrect in calling them Jewish. (although European is questionable)

Natalie Woods sister has said that once he dies she will tell the truth about how he raped and abused her sister and many others - led to her suicide apparently - now we will see if those stories were true - he had some pretty bad rumours in hollywood he was not a nice guy apparently¬
All of these so called stars were pretty bad people it destroyed my brother and my image of all of them
The worst was one of my fave actors Yul Brynner - apparently he went to lots of sex parties run by the paedophile Roman Polanski and he videod them - according to rumours these tapes were stolen by MANSON after the Cielo drive massacre and one features Yul Brynner being ridden by Warren Beatty! They were all into those sordid sex parties sadly even Burt Lancaster, i think the only one who wasnt was John Wayne!

I'm glad it has been mentioned about Natalie Wood because that is the first thing I thought of when I read he had died. He used to be a big deal in Hollywood, not just as an actor, but because he was a producer and director as well. He had a lot of power. I've been reading about him in blind items online for 20 years. If even half the things I've read about him and the sexual abuse he dished out is true, then he should of been in prison for a long time. I really am not sad that he has died.
Yes, I do believe the Hollywood world is messy and scandalous, and a lot of what really happened may follow most of the ‘stars’ to the grave. Definitely a lot of covering up going on, to the point where we may never know the whole truth

I saw on news not long since where they made a big deal of his daughter in law catherine zeta jones sitting on his knee for his birthday! I now wonder whose idea that was?? I certainly wouldnt have hopped on my father in laws knee for his birthday!
I've never seen any of his films, but I've seen the famous seen from Spartacus and I've seen a few films that his son was in. 103 is an impressive age. I'm sure he will be greatly missed by lots of people, especially his family. I like where Micheal says to us he was just dad and that he was proud to be his son. That's a lovely tribute and the best legacy to leave behind.
We love older films, some of our favourites that he was in are Heroes of Telemark, The war wagon, and I don’t believe that you can’t have seen Spartacus!!!
Not sure what my favourite Kirk Douglas film is but have enjoyed many of his films. Whatever his personal life a brilliant actor. I do think the idea that only the real truth comes outs when he dies is a bit ridiculous as you can pretty much say what you want after he dies without the fear of prosecution. I'm sure some truth can come out but also a ton of lies too.
RIP. I've checked the list of films he made and can't remember watching even one.
Although, I am interested in watching "The Man from Snowy River" as it is a Western film.
You know, he lived well over 100 years and that's pretty impressive.

There is no smoke without fire there were numerous reports in the 50 and 60's about his abuse and look how Michael Douglas turned out - eh!
So many sheeple refuse to consider that famous actors could be a bit dodgy - he was one of my fave actors too but I never hide my head in the sand!
