Scam Calls following Competition Entry - Beware

Other

I have been entering comps since May 2019. Only won two small prizes but still hoping. What I want to say but I am sure many of us compare are aware of unfortunately as we enter competitions our details get passed scammers occasionally. I just had a call to say I won a holiday, I proceeded with caution and then when they asked if I owned my home and I said no I was no longer eligible. Scammers and when I checked number a lot of reports of similar phone conversations about winning a holiday or cash equivalent. Number is 0161 660 6785, note it and also might be helpful if compers let us know what other numbers are similar scambags. I am lucky I am alert but some may not be so lucky. One report said this scammer get people to pay a certain amount for their prize and then laugh at them. Disgusting.

What do you think of this?

Block that telephone from your phone. If you have a BT line then I think the number is 1572 call protect, just follow the instructions and you’ll never get a call from that number.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I did mention another a few weeks ago which I think is worth repeating. I entered a perfectly respectable comp a while back to win a £200 voucher for new blinds and felt it was worth entering as it would pay for a new kitchen blind.

I got a call saying I had won but when I asked what price one small blind would be it transpired that they would not consider less than a £1200 order.

I quite sharply replied that in other words I had not won anything at all but was rather receiving £200 off a £1200 order, on which they would still make a profit so it was therefore a sales trick. Wasn't surprised he hung up!

Sounds like a timeshare, I had one of these too. There are quite a lot of dodgy sites out there that share your details with other companies. If in doubt, check terms first and try not to give your phone number.
