Too Scared to Make an Innocent Remark

Other

Recently a chat was taken down but I had missed the last few comments so I don't know why, squabbling I expect.

The subject was woke issues. Now I am not going to revisit anything that was said but this happened today:

My boss rang me to talk about a complaint made against me but reassured me immediately that he had my corner but was just making me aware so I am more careful in future. The remark was not disrespectful, rude, nor was it a remark that was an ist or ism, in reply to a colleague query as to why we were waiting I replied that this one was always late out.

Now, is it me or is that a remark that warranted a complaint? Especially as it was eavesdropping by a staff member who had nothing to do with us.

This is the woke world I am opposed to because that has hurt me far more than the remark which was not hurtful to anyone.

It is a sad world now where one is hauled over the coals just for an innocent comment you intended no harm by.

I have done the job for 11 years, have always greeted staff at the centre with a smile, cheery hello, quick chat and I feel absolutely gutted that someone felt that was enough to stab me in the back.

I live alone anyway and this just makes me feel like shutting my door and telling the whole world to go away. I would resign if I could afford to.

I think the key phrase here was 'stab in the back'. Whoever reported you either had a little bit of jealousy issues, wanted to be seen as a potential promotion-getter or just enjoyed the praise of being a virtue signaller. It's the world we live in so, when in doubt, duct tape that mouth.....I'll probably get jumped on for having the audacity to malign virtual signalling.

sunny101 yes exactly. I have vowed never again to speak to any of them unless it is to do with work, which is a shame because to your face they all seem as cheery and friendly as me.

I am not sure jealousy comes in to it as I am a mere passenger assistant so to them I probably seem like an unqualified person who is beneath them. I expect they would be surprised to know I spent 26 years in registration and also served in the Navy lol.

Lynibis Sad times indeed but don't waste any more of your time on these individuals. Some people just have the mean gene and will never improve. x

sunny101 I agree and won't let it upset me unduly, I am more concerned about it clouding my boss's opinion of me.

It just seems strange and a bit of a paradox that these are mostly very woke young women but their wokeness doesn't seem to extend to those whose feelings they hurt. At the end of the day what end did the complaint serve.

Lynibis I always wonder how these 'lurkers' would feel if confronted, they just love anonymity.

e.g. staffroom to the masses "to the person that overheard my innocent remark and was offended by it - I just like them to know that their actions really upset me, made me feel quite worthless and took the weekend to recover. I will make sure this does not happen again".

Nadiaparveen thank you. Yes, it seems strange a person can complain to a manager about a private conversation between two workers to whom no offensive remark was taken as such. Bit like me overhearing two strangers saying something I did not like and reporting it, so much for freedom of speech. It was such an off the cuff remark that was never meant to offend.

Hun don't let negative people change the beauty of your inner person. Carry on being you. As you say your boss takes your side as many will and they will look apon the negative person in a new light remember everything has a way of coming in to light so you carry on being you people love you or hate you but it don't matter its what you think about you stay true to you.

sassy7862 thanks, yes you are right as karma will out. You are also right about love/hate as there seems to be no reason sometimes as to why we dislike someone without really knowing them.

Recently I was told not to mention the five years up and unto death I cared for my husband on my CV.I was told that it would prejudice my chances for fresh employment. Job centre made me feel like I had been sitting on the sofa eating beans and watching soap operas. This is a changing world indeed. Methinks the person who dobbed you in will one day me confronted by a less kind soul than yourself. Seems some people can't tolerate the truth for fear of being offended anymore. World gone crazy. I would speak first hand to the person responsible and ask them nicely without rebuke what their intention was and let them know that I was hurt by the manner in which they approached this.

MelissaLee1963 I really don't understand that either, it is a good and loving reason to be out of work for that time, not just being idle. In fact any prospective employer should welcome such honesty as there will obviously be a gap on your CV and what reason could be more acceptable.

I once got told off for writing in the book I have given the key to the polish worker as I didn't know his name and he was the only polish worker on the site.

Pfs Crazy world. I hate all this thinking for other people and assuming how they might react to an innocent remark. If someone did not know me well and referred to me as the British/English lady I would not in the least be offended. Also if I were in a room of predominantly ethnic people I would have no problem with being pointed out as 'that white lady over there'.

I once got told off for a post on Facebook (I had been locked in the office car park been working late for free! and had to stay in office overnight as I worked 20 miles from home) that was on my own profile page and I had settings locked down to Friends only. My mistake there having supposedly work mates as friends on Facebook. I now don’t have any social media with my real name it’s not worth the hassle

This short cartoon clip made me smile and laugh:

Some people think it's offensive, but I know where they could go with that mentality.

PhilipMarc for some reason I had no sound while watching so it was a bit lost on me, I did unmute and turn up volume in case you are wondering lol.

Lynibis Tried watching on YouTube directly?

These old cartoons would be banned and deleted if the offended had the power to.
