Schmaltzy but I Can't Stop Watching It!

Imagine this: Small North American town in the early 1900s, everyone looks out for each other, women are not only in power positions but dress in the height of fashion with a faceful of make up. All the children are polite and well behaved and also well dressed at a time when poverty was rife and in reality most would be half starved and in rags. Everything looks clean and tidy.
The stories are twee and romance is in the air. Think Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons, but lots more glossy and kind with punishment for wrong doing being less severe than it would be today!
So obviously made by 21st century minds looking at history with 21st century eyes. We don't get to see the real nitty gritty of life back then but I can't help loving it. Bit like an historical soap.
Oh, I nearly forgot, it's called 'When the Heart Calls'
Edit with thanks to Johnny 'When Calls the Heart'
Oh my gosh, I literally started this series a week ago and I’m already done with season 6. It’s all I’ve been binging. My favourite couple are Rosemary and Leland.
Yep me too. Lee has such a lovely smile. I actually find it hard to like the main character, Elizabeth. But I finished series 6 tonight and will miss it.
I was so upset at the awful loss of a main character but won't mention for those who may wish to watch.
not heard of it but it sounds very different from the usual fayre! Will have a mooch for it.
It is on Netflix and is very watchable despite my reservations about the reality of life in those times. But it is good wholesome fayre lol
Ah, I saw the name but didn't put two and two together. Maybe that's why they wrote her out of last couple of episodes. Obviously filmed around that time.
There’s a similar tv show based on Anne of Green Gables called ‘Anne With An E’. It’s more targeted towards teenagers but I love it. The main character Anne (she’s an early teen) is very annoying but when makes up for it by being formidable.
I'm going to give this a go, is it on Nexflix? As when I was growing up I loved both the Waltons and Little House on the Prairie. I used to like watching the Gilmore Girls total escapism, but currently real life is so grim
