What Alternatives Should Schools Offer to Fundraising?
Ask a Question
Every month I get something off son's school about either raffle tickets (£10 worth being sent home and try and sell them) or its break rules that use to be free on a Friday now it's 50p-£1 a time or it's something else asking for donations.
I've stopped participating in most as simply can not afford it.
Should school be more understanding and scale back on such things?
It's a sad state of affairs but all schools seem to be adopting a drip drip drip type of fundraising these days. If you cannot subscribe you shouldn't have any qualms saying no. It's a choice not a requirement
I pay £2 a week for our sons nursery snack. Never been asked for money for anything else. Schools will be struggling too with the cost of living crisis, so they maybe can't afford to give things free that they used to.
The more the school is deprived the more the text messages ,the letters ,the emails and even in some cases ambushed at school then it will keep coming and coming .
I have known on some occasions that if the messaging don't work then its personal blackmail in class and it should be purely volunteering basis and your doing the best for your child.
They shouldn't be putting that much pressure on you. You need to contact ofsted of board of governors
As someone who works with kids and in schools we've no money. We're skint and desperate for money. It's not OK that we are asking parents for money but we are desperate. It's OK to say no. If you can't afford it then please speak to the school they will understand
Yes absolutely I think its disgusting to ask when they know so many familys are struggling right now I'm getting sick of it they are always fundraising for one thing or another
My sons school does occasionally but they also put out food for free to help anyone struggling. You can just take what you want. It's usually cereal fruit ect, but I think it's a great initiative to help those who need it.
They are always asking for something, I remember being the only child in my school that refused to pay for anything, I have not changed much.
