Can’t comment on Blackpool as never been there and have no desire to. Went on day trip to Scarborough once but the weather ruined it because we just had blanket sea mist and gave up. Never been since. Went to Great Yarmouth last year. It was ok and pretty typical English seaside. There were some nice places there. I grew up in Brighton and it used to be much better than today but it’s got way over populated now. I now live in Worthing which is quieter but still by the sea. Littlehampton is still good in summer season only but the town has gone to pot - literally it stinks of it too! There are a few nice beach areas in Goring and Shoreham but you have to be in the know although not much in way of entertainment if that’s what you are looking for. Oh and not keen on Bognor Regis either. It’s got Butlins and the town is ok but that’s it.

Aenurse1 Yes but it’s not happening! Everyone has been cutting back. Talking about Brighton I think even the i360 isn’t even operating yet again for various issues. That wasn’t there when I lived there. It was just the piers before the west one caught fire.

We went to Scarborough recently, called in a small cafe, meals where nearly £20 each 😱 not including a drink, when we looked for a cabin in Bridlington , for a week it was £895, you can go abroad for that money

We are lucky up here. Whitley Bay seafront had a multi million pound regeneration & the promenade was redeveloped just a couple years ago & is loads better. Tynemouth too is nice, The Priory Castle, Tynemouth Hotel Has just reopened & is fab! Loads of great places to eat now & is a popular surfing destination.

Whitby too I like & always pop there in Summer.

Blackpool is dreadful.

I think the peak of the best living conditions has been and gone. If ever the money is found to regenerate any towns they will be too far gone. I live in a seaside town and I hate it, would sooner live in a village with no yobs, drunks or other anti social shenanigans.

I live down in the south west and seaside towns I use are between 20 and 40 miles away. Including places like Weymouth, Bournemouth, Weston Super Mare, Burnham on Sea and of course a lot more that are slightly further away. Weather isn't an issue because being local I would only go there when I knew the weather is going to be good. I really enjoy these places and the minimal hassle to get there. I can be at the Weymouth park and ride in 40 minutes.

Lots of the UK's problems are related to the high value of sterling which means imports and holidays are cheap and exports are expensive hence the difficulty in balancing imports/exports and our huge trade inbalance and debts. No surprise its cheaper to holiday abroad but obviously that further damages the economy and causes more austerity plus is much more damaging to the environment.

I've never been to Blackpool, Skegness or Great Yarmouth but from what I've seen they look like nice places but too far from me although I do remember the 'Skegness' viz T shirt and cartoon which doesn't sell the place. Personally I feel like there can be a lot of hassle and organisation getting to your holiday destination and back which makes the holiday less relaxing and enjoyable. Airports are one of the most stressful places you can go to. I've known people come back from holiday who just list a huge number of problems be it the airports, the hotel or other issues. They lost their luggage or a pickpocket stole their wallet, hotel being built next to the one they are staying at etc. Of course it depends where you go. I remember someone paying a lot for a holiday in Paris and coming back just saying how much they hated it and they had wasted thousands of pounds. I watched a video on youtube of a family who went to Disney Paris and the food was shocking quality and over priced and they spent a huge amount of time queuing for rides. They seemed happy but I know I would of truly hated to be there.

I have to say I did watch a video about Italy and it looked fantastic, they went to a series of beaches all connected via tiny little train stations and it just looked lovely. It reminded me of Cornwall but just a little different. However so many foreign destinations just look awful to me in the detail.

What do you expect from the Council: High rates, parking charges, no wonder they are left Into dismay. Companies move out because of this. Online shopping Is another Issue. They have the revenue with the parking charges. WsM Is normally busy during the summer. I must admit the Beach Is always clean and tidy but for the shops there Is nothing there. Coffee shops, Charity shops and Shoe shops. The food Is expensive unless you go for a Weatherpersons or to a Beefeater. The Package holidays ruined our tourism years ago like Pontins, Butlins etc. Have you seen how much they charge you now for a holiday. It Is far cheaper to go abroad. Blackpool has been run down for years too with the same as above written plus their unemployment, drug abuse and fighting. I live In North Devon and my Seaside Town was on the list last week for being a slum. Its the Councils fault for letting places go Into dismay and with everything gone up what do you expect.

Emerge11 Really its the high value of sterling that makes foreign holidays so cheap and why so many go abroad. This starves the UK seaside towns of money so there is less to invest and they get run down. This also causes huge economic damage to the UK and debt which of course adds to the UK's problems with more money spent on debt repayment.

We need to get in a position where we pretty much can only afford to go to UK seaside towns most of the time and foreign holidays are very occasional.

I love the idea of our seasides but once I get top one it never feels like it did when I was small. I think yeah if more moneyt was put into revitalising them I'd give it another go and hopefully enjoy it
