Self Service & Trolleys

Ask a Question

I was out at Lidl yesterday and only had a few items and 3 out of the 4 self service tills had some people using the self service with there trolleys rammed full and slowly scanning.

The queue was massive and a few people ended up leaving the queue and i would have if i wasn't so close to using the self service.

I don't agree with trolleys at the self service as it slows the service down.

Whats peoples thoughts do you agree or disagree with people using trolleys at the self service.

The queues were always massive at Lidl because they only one or two on the tills.

As for self service, I would only allow baskets.

Happens in other shops i noticed, its so annoying waiting ages while someone puts a full shop through on a bloody self service machine. Also people doing large shops in petrol stations 🤬

I dont shop in lidl but asda has 4 types of check out

  1. Where you get served by a person

2 self checkout for baskets

3 self check out with conveyer belt for trolleys

  1. Shop and scan where you scsn and pack bags walking around then pay

I think trolleys should be allowed in self service checkout areas. If you’re buying large/bulky/heavy items you may need a trolley rather than a basket but still not have a lot of shopping overall.

I don’t think they should take fully loaded trolleys through self service though since it does slow it down for everyone else, unless there are areas for trolleys and areas for baskets.

I think they’re used for people who don’t buy so much so it’s easier to buy and go

My local Lidl doesn’t have self checkouts. I would absolutely love if it did as the one thing I hate about Lidl is the massive queues. You can always expect to be waiting in a queue with only 1 or 2 tills open. I don’t think people with a full trolley should use self checkouts. This then delays people with few items

Do you mean the big sized trolleys that are outside or the blue ones they have?

They need to employ more staff at The checkout. I really dislike the trend towards ‘self service’ check outs therefore saving the company money and reducing jobs. They should have more check outs open and the self service should be for baskets only.
